If you won 600k tomorrow and someone said you have 6 months to buy a dream home. Would you buy a lake house, a house by the ocean, or a farm with some nice john deere tractors, what would you pick and why? For me id have to take a nice lake house with an old chris craft boat.

Investing in real estate when values are declining, taxes are climbing, and tens of thousands of Boomers are looking to finance their retirements by selling their homes might not be a very good strategy.

Someplace where my stress would go away ...

I'm a retired military man, so I could live anyplace and get by. Heck, I'm used to about everything.

But I would love to be somewhere where the stress in my life pretty much evaporated.:o

Somewhere up in the Colorado Rockies. Clean air, clean water, deep blue skies. It is beautiful there anytime of year.

I've always been comfortable with heights; mountains or a farm in the highlands would be nice, but the lake-side place seems inviting too and you could get to do some fishing.

I am voting for mountains...but if I had to pick I would say somewhere in montana or alaska

$600K won't buy you all that much in San Diego.

Ask me what I'd buy with a couple of mil.

Watts! There are some sidewalk fast food stands that sell great carne asada burritos with the works! Hotter than a pepper sprout they is! I could walk to that burrito from my house!

I'd stay right where I am. A couple new John Deere tractors would be sweet though

Mee too. 600 k would pay off the house and give us a little fun money. I truly love where I live. It is a good town. I am just kidding about the Watts thing. I wish I could recall where that burrito shack was, it was a great burrito.:grumpy:

I love the mountains to no end, and spend tons of time at my inlaws' second home in the Sierras in South Tahoe, but I'm a coastal boy at heart, and I love the ocean! There are a few place here in the Pacific Northwest where I could be by the sea and still have woods and hills to roam, so I'm going with the ocean!!

Mate, have I got the place for you. Right here in my little corner of the world. About the most stressful thing you'll encounter here is deciding what to have for lunch at the pub.

Although, deciding which cafe to have a coffee in can be a bit of a worry too.

Lake Martin, Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

It would be going back home where I grew up. Near all my old hunting territories. Great fishing.
It would be a base for family and in-laws for Auburn University football games. I could become an old fart following Auburn baseball, soaking in the atmosphere and the sun.

Heck, I would already be there if my wife would retire and move 125 miles away from the grandkids.
