If you could just bug out, drop everything, or use my "if I was single with no kids..." and go anywhere in the world, drop into a new culture and start over where would it be and why?

Mine? Mongolia to live with the nomadic herdsman. I've seen two documentaries on those people and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. Believe it or not Julia Roberts did a fantastic documentary on these people and their horses on PBS. Check it out if you get the chance!

Ok, lets here it!

Tuscany, Scandinavia or the north of the US (yes, I know - very different...)

Maybe one option becomes reality not too far in the future. There are German schools looking for teachers in very faraway places - and the state grants you your job in Germany if you go for 3 or five years. When my child is born the time will be right to apply - I want to be back when he/she (we do not want to be told) has to go to school...

Isle of Skye in Scotland. I was there on my honeymoon and thought I had found heaven on earth. Truly the most beautiful place I have ever seen.

I'd go home and watch tv.

Wait... I'm doing that tonight!

I have a wonderful life.

At least that's what Jimmy Stewart keeps telling me.

Ding, ding, ding...

Look, I'm passing out wings. :D

i'd go to Thailand for a year and fight.

Do you Thai Box Dave? I would love to go to Japan and fight. Mark!!!! Live from the Budokan!!!!1 And by fight I mean get the poop knocked out of me, but I would get a chance to meet the Pride Fighting Championship ring girls so I would sign up for my beat down :D

Lots of places I have still not been yet, but I would choose St. Barts in the French West Indies. Eat fine French food, drink good wine/beer, work on my tan and enjoy the rampant toplessness at the beaches. :)

I was there in the 80's with my wife and would go back again if I could. Well...I could, but not sure how I would explain the scenery to my young teenage boys LOL.

Australia...for no good reason except that I have always wanted to and it's the second to the last continent for me to get to. Open spaces, temperate climate...ignorable laws ;-)

Hawaii (one of the islands anyway)...for the beaches and sea breezes.

Anywhere in Europe. If you don't like it, drive a couple of hours and find someplace nicer...Hitler did after all.

Asia...big place...lots to choose from.

Africa...somewhere back down south.

South America...again...it's a big place and I could be satisfied in many places.

Here in the US...offers most of the above...and some that is found no where else.

Most importantly I have learned is not where...but with whom.

New Zealand, for the same reason Nasty said Australia, but without their facist gun laws. They say you can go from warm beaches clear up to the snow and stay on the same island. I'd find a place back in the forest on top of some mountain where I could live quietly but still not be too far from civilization.

Just need a couple of shipping containers to take my books, guns, knives and tools (OK maybe 3 containers! (-:), and I'd be all set. I'd miss the USA but not all the new police state laws that seem to be on the way or here already.

One can only dream!

I'd go back in time and check out North America in its Native American days.

Then I'd go back even further and chill with the Dinosaurs, if they'd let me.

I thought this was a great thread idea. !!

There are still parts of the Mojave desert I'd like to see, and maybe just keep walking through Baja California.

Nasty already mentioned Australia, and that's funny because I'd like to see the Great Rock they have and the desert there.

There's a mountain held by Turkey that has an anomally on it. It's either rocks or Noah's arc; TV swears this is true.

There's also a Island of Mountains in the middle of Idaho. For that matter, it has a bunch of volcanic buttes I'd like to see.

I'd like to pack my stuff and start walking, live with what I can carry. I guess I'd head east, as I'm already about as far west as I can go without getting my feet wet. I'd have to have my woman with me though.

I'd go to California. There's this section of coastline, I think it's called Big Sur. Anyways, it was one of the nicest places I have ever seen. Flatlands, forests, mountains, and ocean all combined. I'd build a hut there and become a transcendendalist hippie, or something.

Unfortunately, the people who grow Pot there would shoot you and dump the body into the ocean.

Jebadiah, Big Sur is a beautiful place, it's about 1.5 hrs from my house, our buddy Svashtar is closer yet. I could be very happy there myself. Svashtar, these fellas here are in Australia and NZ. IF any of you don't like hunting, please do not follow the link. Dan K, weren't you interested in using a sticker on a hog?
