Where would you go?

Along with my thread about the BOB kits I wondered what comes to your mind when you hear SHTF? What do you think the situation might be and do you have a place or places in mind to go and prepare for what comes next? I have several places in mind because depending on the scenario some may not be reachable.

depending on the severity of the situation, we have a friends property that is open to our family... we are also surrounded by woods that my wife and i know very well.... we have a few spots in mind that would provide shelter and a fresh water source...

My family has decided we would go to my lake house. Its a small town next not to far from a big city. If nothing else we can go fishing and wakeboarding.

Living just outside of NYC I would most likely head for my brothers up in the Catskill mountains region of NY. I would have to leave at the first sign of trouble because getting past the city would be impossible IMO. If I could make it out of the city and into the country we could regroup and move towards the Adirondacks. We have spoken about this together and have a loose family plan. It sounds good as I sit here on my couch in the comforts of my suburban home.

A nice big city where I could run around in circles pulling my hair out until the government takes care of me and fixes everything.

^ oh you mean like vancouver? cuz out mayor Sam "Timmy" sullivan sure has made sure the city is prepared....

NOT!

hahahaha:cool:

The man my mom was living with until she died has a couple of thousand acres behind his house that would suit me well!

Sounds like some fair plans. I worry a bit that transportation may be shut down or greatly hampered.

When I lived in Michigan I felt pretty secure with easy access to various family properties in the middle and northern parts of the LP. Could have holed up in any of those places for a good long time with plenty of land, water, and supplies.

Out here in the Seattle area I feel exposed. Depending on the time of year (like now) it's next to impossible to get over the mountains and even under good conditions there are a limited number of egress points. I've pretty much reconciled myself to hunkering down rather than bugging out should the proverbial SHTF.

It's funny how the new economy has led to such a rapid breakup of my family. We used to all live within a few miles of each other in SE Michigan and everyone had a place up north. Now we're spread to the four winds with most of us in densely packed coastal areas. Not ideal conditions for dire scenarios -- loved ones at opposite ends of the continent in precarious urban areas.
