Guys,What is the best place to get sharping stuff ,strops and compound from,Im just starting out but ,I do it 100% or not at ALL.Where should I buy from?PLEASE HELP.THANKS GUYS..
 
You can find alot of good material at Wood Craft. Other wood working stores also, wood workers are edge freaks not unlike ourselves. I bought some compressed stroping leather, and as soon as I can pry my hands from the keyboard from being on this cursed forum, I may actually make the dig burn strop!:o:D
 
CJ,Yes Woodcraft is good and offer many supplies.But this week I ordered a stone from them. Described as a black hard Arkansas but when I received it, it was a grey med.hard Arkansas at best and not well cut.So,I'm returning it.They have a good return policy.
Now,I'm sticking w/ Norton Stones (www.nortonstones.com)they are of superior quality
and I've not been disappointed w/them.DM

I am lucky enough to have a store close enough to me that I can stop in and shop. I am not a shopper, until you get me in a store with tools.....I really do not mean Harbor Freight, ok, I will shop in there when funds are down.:o
 
I recall DMT, and some Japanese. I cannot say for sure on the Norton, but I believe so. They have a decent array of products.
 
Just checked on Woodcraft.com They also have Spyderco, and yes Norton. Quite a good selection on line. I am sure the knife stores have them as well. It is good to shop around. The staff at Ventura CA Woodcraft are very helpful, so I enjoy touching and feeling the product. I will be near the southbay on Monday, and I know there is a Rockler wood working store, will have to peek in there as well.
