He's a very busy man, and has a lot of other things going on besides Becker knives. Apparently he's out of town right now, doing out of town stuff. Bladite said he should be back soon . . . whatever that means.:D

You're right, he's been gone for quite awhile this time. I kinda miss having him around, too. It's better when he pops in from time to time.

All,

Just talked to Ethan. He's somewhere between Napa Valley and Tennesee. (closer to Neveda, I think)
He's been doing a load of fund raising and glad-handing events out west going from one
5 star restaurant to the next. If you think he's been dogging it. He says he has carpal tunnel from all of the hand shaking and his bunnions are acting up from too much standing in his vibram soled Bruno Magli shoes.

LOL. Heck, if he was in California again, he could have stopped by San Diego, and I would have treated him to a .005 star restaurant, like Mac Donald's. That's about all I can afford, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Who knows how long it might take him to get out of Nevada? I hear there are some wild things going on there, and it's easy to lose your sense of direction.:D

i'll be giving the old bugger a call or two later this week as he drives around and is otherwise bored.

he's PROMISED lots and lots of online time to assuage his guilt/etc.

i'm figuring that if he's absent enough, we can change the lineup and call them Bladites instead of Beckers ;) you'll see a lot more crazy models too that way ;)

Bladite

Toooj, you guys need to come on board with an official Ka-Bar forum, so we can fold Ethan's into it. You are here anyhow... might as well put the time to good use for the company!

Hey Spark,

We have very recently talked about that same topic. KA-BAR, Becker and Johnson Adventure all rolled into a forum. Interesting but if we do go that route I may never get any work done in the office.

DBob,
That's what we worry about: Ethan gets easily distracted by shiny, flashing lights
We always have to keep always keep a body guard with him when we are in Las Vegas.

a.) I wish you wouldn't call him an old bugger, since he's only three weeks older than I am, and it makes me feel . . . oh, wait, I am old, too. Never mind.

b.) This is a good thing. He should be feeling guilty for abandoning us. Doesn't he know how sensitive we are to abandonment issues?

c.) I like the part about more crazy models, just as long as they're not mall ninja specials. The part about Bladites, though . . .

Outstanding, Spark. I've long wondered why there was no KA-BAR forum. I'm all for it (not that anyone cares what I'm for).

Personally, I think it's a good idea. No, you may never get any work done in the office, but think of the fun you'd have.:D
Actually, I'm not sure whether you'd want to roll the Becker forum — which is already long established — into the KA-BAR forum, or not. Becker has such an established identity already, that it might be better to leave it as a stand-alone.

See, that's the thing, Toooj. All those flashing lights and little bells that go ding, ding, ding could make him forget everything else. We might not see him again for who knows how long. The poor guy needs a keeper to help him maintain focus in a place like that. In a surge of noble spirit, I would volunteer to help, but I'm afraid that I, too, am afflicted by the flashing light syndrome, and we'd never get out of there.

Isn't that why y'all have customer service people? ;)

Besides, have you seen the results ESEE, Busse & Spyderco have from doing products based off customer response?

Listen to the man, Toooj; he makes some excellent points.

Heck, I'd volunteer to mess things . . . er, I mean help things along, if I could.

i'm gathering that there would be a "KaBar" forum proper, for all things KaBar, and sub-forums for the various makers/lines under that?

or something?

No, no, not old coot — you said old bugger. And I shouldn't say that the old . . . uh . . . person is only three weeks older than me because I may be older than him. He told me that his Birthday was about three weeks before mine, so I just assumed he was an older coot . . . I mean person . . . than I.

Yes. Much, much guilt . . . leaving us here to fend for ourselves. Shame on him.

Yes! Yes! Models! Yes! They need to be sent here for approval, first. I'm especially partial to redheads, but almost any will do. Yes! Models! the heck with knives.

I think that would be a good solution, but can we have sub-forums under sub-forums? While I would love to see a KA-BAR forum, I would hate to see Becker lose its identity, and just be thrown in willy-nilly with everything else.

Maybe Spark will chime in and let us know.

We can have multiple subforums under main forums. I figure if KaBar people are here anyhow, why not make it official?

Thanks, Spark. I wasn't sure quite how that worked.

I'm all for a KA-BAR forum, with Becker and Johnson folded into sub forums.

Now it's up to KA-BAR.

I've asked about this before and got the same response regarding the time and effort involved. I can certainly see Tooj's point. KA-BAR is VERY dedicated to their customer service and keeping things personal (or so I have gathered from EVERY interaction I have had with them). I think it is important to them that a forum be done right and moderated properly in order to align with their established reputation and keep the same standard that has been set by this fine Becker sub-forum.

The title of this thread alone proves just how important input from Ethan and Tooj is to the forum and the creation of a KA-BAR and JAB forum would likely require the same attention from all those involved in order to keep folks happy and the forum amazing. That is asking for a lot of time and energy from everyone who, frankly, have more important things to do than post on a forum... like designing and producing knives.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see both a KA-BAR forum with a Becker and JAB subforum and think it is needed. Hell, I would even volunteer to moderate it or one of the subs. But, in the meantime, I think Tooj is going about it just right in waiting until it can be done right.
