Where's the Volpe love?

I think its healthy that Spyderco tries everything and different designers and works with different countries.

Remember my theory about the bear and the panda
:)

The panda thinks its perfect and thinks it knows it all
It only eats bamboo and doesn't have sex with others

The bear eats everything and is a generalist and that's why its not endangered:)

Spyderco should have sex with all countries to learn and evolve
:)

Lame ass logos all over the blade...

When will Spyderco Learn:

HUGE ASS LOGOS ARE AN OBNOXIOUS TURN OFF!!!

I understand Paul's points, especially being a leftie and all :D , but you guys need to get your hands on one of these before you make the final call.
I do have my hands on one Razz,

I will grant that fit and finish are excellent. The edges of the handles are all nice and smooth, so you don't feel you're going to cut yourself running a finger along the blade well. Wish they'd show this one to the gang in Seki City, they never seem to remember to do that. Ditto on the clip, another area where the Japanese seem to be cutting corners of late. Far as the engraving on the blade goes, well done or not, I still dislike it.

On the other hand, even if everything else about it were to my liking, the handle is too small for my girly-man hands to get a comfortable four finger grip on it. Doubt that someone with man-mitts could get more than a three finger grip on it.

If I were right handed, I would question whether having the blade pivot screw serve double duty as a clip screw would preclude removing the clip, or at least require finding a washer the same thickess as the clip.

BTW did you notice that there is a fox cutout on the left side of the handle, under the rear wooden blob? Ok, the programmer in me has to give them another point there for that neat little "Easter Egg". :D

The deacon has more knowledge and more experience than me. He is right about his feed back .

But It is still a great design that can be taken forward
There is something about the blade shape and the handle that I love. This knife works
:)

it has wooden blobs stuck on the handles
I don't much like that either. It might make for easier customizeing.
I remember when Sal asked about the current trend of makers putting overlays on.I have not seen a higher end knife with an overlay, all the ones I have seen have the wood or whatever inserted into milled slots.

I agree with the Deacon on the 50/50 choil
That's it.
:) and better steel. That would make it perfect

You know Italians are good at design. If you tell them function and experience, They make ferrari

Now, I have to confess that I didn't notice that. It's actually kind of hard to see. Did you take the "blob" off? :D

Nope, did not take anything off. Perhaps just got lucky with strong light coming in through the "bug" cutout when I looked inside the handles. There's another, triangular shaped cutout under the front "blob" as well. On top of that, the closer I look, the more I am thinking the "blobs" are not onlays at all but fitted into shallow recesses in the handle, like the "blobs" on some Sebenzas.

Well, i said it over at Spydie home forum, but i'll willingly say it here as well.
I think the Volpe is a beauty, and the only fault IMHO is the fact that it is hard to close onehanded. Besides that it's all  from me:D

Very glad to hear that.

That was my take too. Something else I noticed now that you mentioned said "fox" ... :D (I still can't tell what it is), is that the inside surface of both scales appear to be near mirror polished. Interesting stuff ... This one likely cost a little extra to make given all the finishing detail.

One-handed closes are not going to happen very easily with this one, but it does lock up super tight.

A little late to the thread, but let me put in my love for the Volpe. The design, F&F, I really like just about everything about it. I may have liked the wood pieces to be set a little deeper and perhaps a choil at the pivot, but they're not deal breakers for me. It's a knife that just grabbed my eye and delivered on the quality I wanted.

I haven't handled one. Sounds like it's a very well-built knife, but there's nothing I like about how this one looks. The blade looks especially atrocious to my eye; the divot leading to the hump for the hole, all underscored by the logo on the blade:barf: . No worries, plenty of other Spydies out there to choose from.

That big dip in the blade is what I can't get past.No real need for it as I can control the blade just as well on a flat spine.

At least in my hands, the dip is in the perfect place for really fine finger control of the blade. Fairly natural easy grip with my index finger in the "dip". This was actually a nice surprise as I was sorta "under-wowed" by the overall design at first too. It's growing on me.
