Where's your favorite place to ........

I put on my pink bunny slippers and my imitation coonskin cap, slip into my shiny green suit and throw a couple bandoliers across my shoulders, and then skip down to the corner bodega, where I set up my little wooden knifebox in the sidewalk. There, I sit and sharpen my new knives while I dip my toes into little cups of strawberry yogurt (procured from said bodega), and play traditional Flemish folk songs on my home-made wooden recorder. It is really very relaxing.

Here at college any sharpening, oiling, stropping, or polishing is done in my dorm room, sitting at the desk or on my bed. When I'm at home I like to sit on our front porch and listen to the birds, keeping an eye on my younger brother as I touch up the edge and make fuzz sticks.

I do a lot of tinkering right here at my desk where I talk - errrrrrrrrrrrr type to you guys. Clean and sharpen knives, etc.. I like to use the desk because it is right next to our TV which you can see just to the right of the desk as you're looling at the picture.

I also do a lot of my tinkering at my reloading bench - reloading, gun cleaning, gun repair, knife tinkering.

I also have a shop with a nice bench but that's where I mostly do my automotive work, tractor repair, and mower repain.

I go where the tools are....TO THE MAN CAVE!

I am envious. Space is at a premium with the new wife and kid. What I don't get is that the kid gets a room, the wife gets the rest, but what do I get? The porch? The garage?

Yes, go to the garage. You can make a very nice bench for yourself along one side or the front of the garage. That reloading bench of mine is 4' x 2' and I can do most anything on it. Make it so that the top of the bench is 34" to 36" off the floor just about what your kitchen counters are. Get one of the cheaper, wooden, 24" tall stools. That will put you at just the right height for working at the bench.

You can leave it open or you can enclose it. Enclose it if possible and make it your Man Bench. Man stuff only on the bench. No diapers, etc.. Just your stuff.

Build some shelves over the bench and hang a 48" flouresent shop lamp over the bench.
