I was starting to wonder about her shooting skills too. The scope probably was whacked when her dad fell down. As long as he has hunted though, I'm a little surprised he didn't check it after falling....]

I wonder if maybe he normally would have check the scope afterwards but was distracted by the team of cameramen are following.

Could very well be. I now if I was being filmed, I would want to make sure I hit with the first shot though. Bad enough missing when on one sees it, but when its on T.V, thats even worse :D

She is getting some negative attention in the media for killing a caribou

Do people forget were food comes from?

I don't think people forget...it's just awkward when a less intelligent animal (aka Sarah) takes out prey that's at least a few IQ points higher (and that's being kind). She makes a poor advocate for hunting.

Right. She isn't a genius so it's perfectly reasonable to insult her and call her dumber than a deer.

Well, I may have been exaggerating for dramatic effect.

How a "sport" or "hobby" is represented to the public, and who the key representatives are, really matters. This is my concern...if she took up motorcycling (my hobby of choice) and rode around advocating riding in a public manner, it could very well draw negative attention to the motorcycling community. Although I'm not a big Jay Leno fan (just don't find him funny), I do admire him for his success in putting a positive light on the motorcycling community. That said, I'm guessing the negative attention she's getting is more about her personally than about killing an elk or anything else...just hope the negativity doesn't splash on the hunting community in general.

Well, we've found at least one thing to agree on. I don't think Jay Leno is funny either! :D I do covet parts of his automotive collection, however.

Regarding Palin, as I see it, the people who adamantly dislike her will continue to do so regardless of her actions, or of how she is portrayed, on this show (which I haven't seen). I am also willing to bet that people who are truly anti-hunting are, for the most part, the same people who adamantly seem to believe that Palin is some sort of harbinger of doom/dumbing down of America.

I don't believe that her show will change any person's mind on either issue. Those who were crowing before will continue on with that same old tune while those of us who just don't care will shake our heads and wonder what the heck the big deal is.

Nice brain. I see you've had it freshly washed.

Her list of accomplishments as Governor are many, and not well communicated to the public, for reasons that escape me. Your insults are not only false, but reflect very poorly upon you.

Okay, I was a bit strong in my statement, and I do apologize. I'm sure you have good reasons for liking her. I don't get it...I feel that many of her actions and thoughts were poorly executed and expressed. Each his own. My "real" point is that no matter what she does (good or bad) there will be a group of people looking to spin the hell out of it. I think much of the bad press has more to do with her persona than with killing a deer. One one hand it's pretty crappy of the public to stereotype and pick at her like that, but on the other hand she reaps what she sows. Sometimes I think we need a planetary "time out" for a few days....then meet at IHOP for pancakes.

i think some of the argument is the fact that carribou isnt that hard to shoot. its a big dumb animal (as quoted by some). like shooting a moose. i think its perfectly fine shooting an animal as long as you eat it. simple as that.

that being said, she is a political whore who's only interest is to get how ever much $$ she can while she can. her daughter is another prime example.. sadly people follow her. i am republican.

I'm highly amused at all those folks who keep misunderestimating Sarah. I think she'd have been in a much stronger political position if she'd finished her term, but maybe political office wasn't her primary concern. No objective person can deny she's proven a political force in terms of fund raising, campaigning, shaping national dialogue etc. And when it comes to promotion, self or otherwise, the woman is a genius. I'm willing to bet her Alaska series will net her state a huge windfall of tourism dollars. But most of all, I've come to love Sarah Palin for her unflaggingly positive view of life.

As far as the hunting episode is concerned, I'll be next time she'll check the rifle herself before the trip. Good lesson that!

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who wouldn't vote for Sarah for President or whatever is blind and stupid! I rest my case.

Well, your points are compelling for sure. I certainly don't want to be blind and stupid(er) or stuff like that! Go Sarah! :p

Whether you like Sarah Palin or not politically, this thread is in Hunting & Fishing, and all these political comments are Out of Place.

And so, the thread is closed. :(
