Which 1 hp motor is it in Beaumont's disc sander? This one?

I don't always like taking away shop time to do long drawn out projects just to save a couple bucks, but I think I can save some good cash by putting together my own horiz. mounted disc sander by buying the parts.

My question is exactly which 1 hp motor does Rob use for his disc sander packages, anybody know? I think it's this one here:
http://www.electricmotorwholesale.com/LEESON-110145/

But....Rob's disc grinders run on 110, but this one seems to run on 220. Any input? Also, for a variable speed setup I want the 3450 RPM version, not a 1725, right?

Thanks!

If you're going vfd variable speed then The VFD will take a 110 input and convert it to a 220v 3 phase output

The VFD shown in the photo below from his site is a 1HP version of the KB electronics unit.
It will accept a 110v input
KBAC24D

Most others like the TECO units don't take the 1110v input - depending on the model

That motor would work as far as I see, depending on:
whether or not you want the high or low speed

rob's' website lists a 1725 RPM motor

how you want to mount, that motor looks like it uses a foot
you can also get a C face that mounts bolt onto the face.

You mean this type "Horizontal shaft"

Thanks numbers,
Didn't realize the 110 VFD will convert to 220 3PH. I was planning on using the KBAC-27D. Looks like the motor I linked to would work fine, thanks for the clarification.

Also, yes I'm going to do a mounting setup like the one you pictured from Rob's site. The motor and VFD will be mounted to an aluminum plate on a bench like that.

That motor you linked would work

Robs's site lists the 1700 rpm and that motor is 3400

Maybe others have more comments on that.

I trust Rob's setup, should have clarified that I would go with the same motor only in the 1725 RPM range. They have that model available as well.

Get your disc grinder figured out?

I just bought a new 1.5hp 3ph 1725 RPM motor for $159 free shipping. I haven't got it set up all the way as I've been working and dealing with 14 year old son issues(Laugh away mom!)

But, it came with a 2 year warranty too. Not a Leeson, but good enough for the price I'm thinking. I'm running it off my KBAC27 VFD that runs my GIB.

I could e-mail you a link if you'd like.

Hey Brian can you send me that link, I need to start ordering all my disc grinders parts here soon.
Thanks!

Johhny, I had a similar discussion a few months back with Mike Barton and he told me that you must buy a motor that is designed to be used with a VFD, otherwise it would be bad.

Brian,
Thanks buddy, I did get it figured out. I found a 1hp Leeson 1725 just like the one Rob uses on his grinders for $169 with free shipping thanks to a pm. Have a KBAC 24 on the way. Already have some aluminum plate and an extra VFD mount from Beaumont sitting in the shop. I'll pick up a 9 inch steel disc and I'll be good to go!

Looking forward to adding it to the shop.
