Which 1095 from Admiral Steel

All the blade steel in my shop is from Aldo with the exception of 2 bars of O1 and 2 short lengths of 52100. I love the 1084 which i'm almost out of, and i've got 20ish lbs of the beefy 1095 that i need to draw out. 1095 is great steel, but it does need a good fast quench which is hard to get if you're not set up for it. If you know how to read your TTT charts though, hardening just about any non stainless is usually straight forward.

Aldo is the man to get 1095 from!

Nick, I've got 1000#'s of Aldos beautiful beefy 1095fg stashed away.;)

And BTW- Nobody said 1095 is bad steel. It's very common and has been around forever. I happen to like it a lot :) Lots of folks have made decent knives out of it with simple backyard heat-treating methods. However, it's very unlikely the steel will reach its full potential with backyard methods. :)

One of my blade reached it full potential today. I didn't get it in water fast enough. Three cracks and it snapped like a twig when I put pressure on it.
Guess I only have two blades for this weekend. LOL
