Which 3" or less folder?

I agree with Flood. The Native is a GREAT knife. If you must stay at or under 3", go with the Calypso Jr. It too is a GREAT knife. The Delica comes in at 3", but is tip-up. You can't go wrong with any one of the three.

Benchmade 855 or 330

CRKT S-2 or ApacheIII

All have ATS-34 and are under $70 bucks...Buy a couple!

I'll second or third the BM705. It is the single finest production (non-tac) pocket folder on the market in my humble opinion. Check it out!

well, I went with the Spyderco Native. I figured I would start with this one because of the good price. If I decide it is not for me then a BM 705 will be my next choice. Thank you to all that submitted your opinions.

A fine choice!!!

Kevin -
I wear a suit or slacks and sport coat a lot - agreed the big knives are a bit out of line - Someone else mentioned that little Gerber L,S,T, - I love mine for every day - I just got back from a "flying" vacation to South Carolina's beach and a cruise to Nassau
It went along with no problems in a suit or nylon shorts on the beach - I even had to fillet about a 2 and 1/2 lb. flounder with it for dinner one night. The L.S.T. is tip up carry however but does not create a problem and it takes and holds a wicked edge. I've used one for years now and love it. A Friend of mine always carrys a zippo lock back - with good luck -light and handy but no clip. Good luck shopping

It always amazes me to see the different variations of what people use as everyday carry knives. For the past 20+ years i have carried a Buck knife of some variation. Currently I carry a Buck Slimline Knight. After changing styles and sizes I have come to find that for everyday use this model suits my needs very well. I believe that the lure of a sexy carry knife is very strong, but not necessary. The steel and blade design of my Buck has always performed when called to task. Sure you could spend more money but when something needs to be cut I'm betting that my little Buck Knife will be up to the task.

I will concede that most, if not all of the knives mentioned by the others, are first rate pieces and are more than capable of performing on par with my Buck.

Thanks for the great forum Folks,

A BM 940 is in that price range-3 1/4" 154CM blade, Axis lock, and the fact that it's beautiful doesn't hurt (got a blue one, and love it).
A MT mini-Socom is about the same price-3.1" 154CM blade, also beautiful. I'd go for the auto (haven't got one of these yet, trying to decide on what blade I want).

Well I got my Native today, and it seems like a nice knife. Unfortunatly, I also got my Darrel Ralph Apogee today as well, so the Native has been a bit neglected. My only complaints with the Spyie is that it rides a bit high in the pocket and there is considerable side to side blade play. This is my first zytel handled knife so I am assuming the blade play is due to the construction. To bad there is no way to tighten the pivot screw. After I carry it some I will have a better feel for the knife. Now back to playing with my Apogee

Flood,
Thanks for the correction. Tip up. I have no idea what I was thinking. The native rocks. I am sitting here just tossing around the idea of getting A serrated too.....

Spydercos new sprint run for g-10 natives will be available in net for about 120$. Kershaw starkey ridge is available with titanium and g-10 handles for about 80$. You might be able to locate Spyderco wenger jr(discontinued) for about 90$.

If I didn't have micarta handled Calypso jr I'd get one for my self. It has only aus-8 blade but in all other aspects it is great.

OOPs I didn't read this thred well enough -you allready did decide..

Heheh Kevin. That's no fair, getting an Apogee and neglecting the Native. The Apogee sure looks to be quite a beautiful custom knife.

Too bad about the blade play. I possess 1 FRN Native and 2 BF G-10 Natives, and soon will possess 2 Sprint G-10 Natives, and so far I have no complaints with side-play. However, mistakes can always occur, and I'm sure that even if Spyderco's QC might be one of the best for production companies, it's still not perfect. I'm sure you can send the knife in and they'll take care of you. You can always e-mail Sal Glesser, the president of the company, or the company itself to have this corrected. I'm sure if you give the knife enough attention after playing with the Apogee, you'll come to appreciate its many great qualities.

Best of luck, and hope you enjoy your new knives,

-Flood

I'm surprised that no one has suggested anything from SOG knives. I sort of remember they had a 3" folder called the Mini Autoclip, which despite its name, is not an auto. The name refers to the clipping device which allows for various thickness of clothing material. I'm trying to see if they still produce it, but this stupid computer in my uni only has Communicator 4.5 which doesn't seem to support the type of frames that SOG uses on its homepage. Anybody want to check it out?
