Which 710 Do You Prefer ?

The only 710 I have is a black handled D2 version. I liked the knife but am not a fan of D2 steel. I have been think of getting the new M390 w/ blue black handle but am looking for a n answer to a question first. On the knife I have the blade hits the back strap when the knife is closed and causes the knife to stay dull. I fixed this by using my dremel to grind the inside of the back strap down till it doesn't hit but would like to know if this has been fixed from the factory

The blade hits the back spacer ? I , too , hope this has been remedied by Benchmade. Anyone else have any info on this ?

Yes, the part of the blade from the tip to where the recurve starts hit causing that part of the blade to dull rapidly. I sent it back twice but with Benchmades excellent customer service, I don't think I did a good job of describing the problem because it never was fixed. I finally used my Dremel with a bit and cut a groove in the backstrap. I haven't had a problem since and it is my most used Benchmade ever.

Personal favorite is the initial Damascus pattern GC 710.
For everyday use its the M390 version out of the 4 or 5 models I have.

Nice Pics, MCM.

710M2HS, hands down.

Always liked the 710-101 as well.

Kinda miss this one was as well.

MCM , that thing is gorgeous. Is it strictly a show piece ?

No, but I have so many I only carry a handfull. So they stay pretty nice in their box's. :D

Have been at it quite a while.

Some other nice ones.............

Just out of curiosity , which 710 do you prefer out the following 3 :
- 710 D2 ($153)
- 710 390 w/ blue&black g10 (KW exclusive) ($170)
- 710 Gold Class w/ Damasteel and C-Tek ($510)

I used to carry a 710 years ago and I really loved it. Then the pricing adjustment scenario with BM which started in late 2013 left me disgruntled and so I sold all of my Benchmades. But now I'm ready to get over it and what I'm craving is a new 710.

Out of those three, the M390 KW. I actually prefer the original slab scales, though.

I have the first two and not the Gold Class. The KW model is far superior to the regular, to me anyway. I love the stand-offs vs. the back-spacer, the g10 feels much nicer in the hand, and I like the corrosion resistance of the M390 vs. the D2, which I did have some rusting issues with once. Overall the KW 710 is just a much nicer knife, but I am going to sell that one and keep the regular just because the KW is almost too nice to use, and I need to move one along. Either one of those will be an excellent choice and will do anything you want a folder to do. I will also add that neither of my 710's have exhibited any of the previously documented issues.

The blue stand offs on the KW 710 do look sweet. But I like the look of the back spacer on the D2 710 just as much. And you say you've had rusting issues with the D2 ? Interesting. I live on Cape Cod , MA so I'm surrounded by the ocean and salt air yet I've never had any kind of rusting or discoloration on my D2 blades (thankfully).

I live in Central Florida and never had an issue here, but while on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi for a couple of weeks last summer and I got some small rust spots. I was in Biloxi and there must have been some bad juju left from Katrina cause I kept getting little spots.

Apologies to the OP, misunderstood the question.

Out of the three choices, I would go w/ the KW exclusive. That and the KW 810, in my opinion are two of the best deals out there.

Yes I agree that they are great deals for sure. Despite thinking that the blue G10 is "meh" at best , I may still get one while they're available. But the D2 710 will probably find its way into my cart as well :)

I love the standard 710 and never feel whole w/ out one. Was going to state you will probably get a standard no matter what way you go.

I feel the same way about the Blu/Blk scales. I imagine they are more comfortable in hand, a little more bulky in pocket and they're not my favorite aesthetically. The blue spacers are hot shit however.

I also am a big fan of BM's D2 and think it a little more practical in the field as i think it is more easily touched up than M390...All in all, the KW is a Limited, as the time is to obtain one for the price thats listed. Honestly cant go wrong w/ whatever you choose.

I have the D2, M4 & The M390 Black and blue.
Out of the 3 I tend to favor the D2. The one I have is very smooth and holds itself very nicely, in terms of blade wiggle.
I like all 3 but the D2 get used the most. They all take a very nice edge on the edge pro apex. I found the M4 The hardest to get a mirror. It holds the edge very nice, but I usually default to smooth when picking a knife in the morning. The black and blue is also very smooth, but it has the tip too close to the outside of the handle. I do use occasionally, but I am always cautious when reaching into my pocket for it.
Just my take on the 3 that I have.
Cheers

I sincerely regret not getting the original KW M390 710 which I believe sold for $150. I like the look of the new one with blue/black scales but prefer the texture of regular G-10. Now what I would love to see is one in 'Benchmade blue' G-10 scales with a M390 blade. Winner winner...!
