Which actor makes the best movie villian?

Gary Oldman in The Professional (I mark out for him in this role endlessly)

Jack Nicholson in Batman

John C. McGinley in a made-for-TV version of Dean Koontz's novel "Intensity"

Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter

Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter

3rd page and no one has mentioned:
Wes Studi as Magua in LOTM!

another vote for Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York.

Female villian was from a made for TV movie I saw as a kid. Bette Davis was in charge of a matriarchal corn cult or something and she cut out men's tounges with a giant pair of sissors. Scared the crap out of me and I couldn't look at scissors for a month!

Henry Silva played numerous bad guy roles: Sharkey's Machine, Above the Law, The Manchurian Candidate.

...for Gary Oldman (loved him in the Fifth Element--"Now, a REAL killer would be asking, "What does this red button on the side do?" [massive explosion]")

and also for Alan Rickman (Robin Hood--"That's IT! Stop handing out table scraps to the poor at the back gate, no more merciful beheading, and CANCEL CHRISTMAS!!"). Oh, and my wife informs me that he'll be a TOTAL bastard, come this latest book Harry Potter to the screen.

Bill Mosley...Otis(Devils rejects/1000 corpses)
Lee Ermy...SGT.Heartman
Danny Trejo...Too many roles to count
mickey Rourke...Last outlaw(He shoots some guy to pieces with a sharps rifle)

You can't beat Alan Rickman in Robin Hood or Jack Nicholson in Batman for great "bad guy" characters.

But how about that little Japanese girl in The Grudge? Scary as $%#&.

Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West.
You beat me to it. My vote for "Most Unsuspected Villian"

Robert Mitchum in Dead Man.

Huge vote for Christopher Lee.

Another vote for Lee Van Cleef, and Alan Rickman in robin hood and also die hard

Also

1. Robert Davi (Sanchez in James Bond, amongst others)
2. Robert Patrick (evil liquid terminator T-1000)
3. Christopher Walken (the headless horseman in sleepy hollow, the bad guy in welcome to the jungle) plays a good bad guy.

Alan Rickman is my favorite movie villain!

Gary Oldman is excellent as well.

Steven Seagal should consider playing villains, because I think he'd be really good at it.

Gary Oldman and Christopher Walken definitely. The combination of David Prowses physical acting, James Earl Jones voice, and the ferocity of the costume, made the character Darth Vader a great villain.

I certainly agree with
Gary Oldman
Jason Isaacs
Alan Rickman
Lee van Cleef

A few I would like to add:
Ian McDermaid (Senator Palpatine)
John Malkovich (In the line of fire)
Ian McKellen (as Magneto)

I'm back to mention one more often-overlooked character: Morgan Freeman as Fast Black in "Street Smart". He's the scariest damn pimp you'd ever want to cross the street to avoid.

Here he's making a woman choose which eye he should dig out with a pair of scissors.

Ray Liotta, wasn't he in Goodfellas?
Yup, he was. Plus in those Mafia movies, there always seem to be the same 4 - 6 character actors playing various smaller roles. I don't even know most of the actors' names, I just recognize their faces.

Whoa, good point. I completely forgot about him. Awesome villain.

Gene Hackman in Unforgiven was a great villian.

He even whipped Morgan Freeman, heck he beat up everybody!

And a good old school villian was Jimmy Cagney White Heat was
great as was "Public Enemy".

George Kennedy was pretty good as well.

John Travolta was pretty scary in "Face Off" but I swear if Christopher Walken walked up to my door I'd call the police, he is so spookey.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Robert Patrick as the T-1000 in Terminator 2.
Arnold in the first Terminator.
Gary Oldman in The Professional.
Denzel Washington in Training Day.
Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.
Kathy Bates in Misery (you'll never look at a sledgehammer the same way again).
Kevin Spacey in Consenting Adults and in Seven.
Robert Deniro in Cape Fear.

Agent Jim,
Female villian was from a made for TV movie I saw as a kid. Bette Davis was in charge of a matriarchal corn cult or something and she cut out men's tounges with a giant pair of sissors.

I think the name of the TV movie was "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home".
It was well done for a TV movie IMHO.

Pass the popcorn,
Allen.

My pick for the creepiest, most sinister and dangerous bad-guy in moviedom is Colm Feore as Andre Linoge, the evil sorcerer, in Stephen King's 'Storm of the Century.' He also was the evil warlord in 'The Chronicle of Riddick.' He can come across as one truly wicked dude.

robert Mitchum, in "the night of the Hunter" 1955

one question:
Does Clint play any vilian role?

Kevin Spacey good choice also (very bad guy in "usual suspect")
