Hi all, new here ..

I have a gransfors bruks small forest axe and I am in need of a file and a sharpening stone. I am unsure if the expensive stones are worth the money or not. Gransfors do one and i've also seen a similar priced one by S.A Wetterlings. These are about £40 a pop. There are plenty dramatically cheaper though (Lansky for example) but I prefer quality if its worth it, any tips and suggestions welcome

They are, but I would go with a Carborundum puck stone instead. They're easy to use, cheap, and handle 85-90% of axe sharpening needs. Or a fine file with a strop can also work, but files are more of a pain to use in the woods than a puck. For either I'd use a loaded strop to de-burr as well.

Hope that helps, enjoy the axe!

A basic Lansky does fine. The higher end ones are nice, but not necessary. The Lansky ones will feel coarser than they actually are at first until excess surface grit wears down, but that happens in the first few uses.

I'd grab a Fallkniven DC 4 and a nagura stone.

Everything you need for a polished edge in a small package

I'm not sure how well a file would work. Those granfors are quite hard.
