Which Ball Peen to Transform?

What hammers are you using to make all of these nice tomahawks? Are the cheapies from Harbor Freight worth practicing on?

I don't know about the HF hamers, but I would think it would be worth it to check out a flea market to find a old made in USA 24 oz hammer probably cheaper than a chinese one from HF.

Yep I use a 16oz ballpeen from Harbour freight. They sell two versions at least at my store, I buy the more expensive one.

PS Forgot to mention the hawk above in its former life was a 16oz ballpeen hammer.

If not a flea market, a pawn shop maybe.

I have looked at a few of the posts about making a hawk. I do remember someone making one of them out of a HF ball peen hammer.
