I have to give credit here: A while back I was considering a BRKT knife too, but I hadn't taken the plunge. FOILIST announced he had a mini-Canadian for sale. I bought it and have to give him credit for getting me hooked. My wife wnats to meet him (so she can punch him and cuss him out)
((D)))
It's a good thing I live on the other side of the country!
I never intended to become a collector of knives - I'm one of those idiots who keeps looking for the perfect knife and so I've become an accumulator rather than a collector. When I had those two Mini Canadians (ordered two by mistake), I carried them both around for two weeks trying to decide which one to keep. My wife thought I was nuts. I kept the plain green micarta one because it felt better in my hand than the burl/mosaic pinned one that Stretch now has.
Like I have said, I don't usually feel under-knifed with the Mini Canadian, but I have felt like having a slightly larger (but not huge) knife at times. The Highland Special seems about right and the the price is acceptable for the micarta handled versions.
The smallish size of Bark Rivers, particularly the handles, is an advantage unless you have serious meat hook hands - the knife feels much more controllable. My one large knife, a Becker Crewman, is so bulky and cumbersome that it doesn't get used much (although it is a good knife).
