Which Bark River?

I have to give credit here: A while back I was considering a BRKT knife too, but I hadn't taken the plunge. FOILIST announced he had a mini-Canadian for sale. I bought it and have to give him credit for getting me hooked. My wife wnats to meet him (so she can punch him and cuss him out)
(((:D)))

It's a good thing I live on the other side of the country!:D

I never intended to become a collector of knives - I'm one of those idiots who keeps looking for the perfect knife and so I've become an accumulator rather than a collector. When I had those two Mini Canadians (ordered two by mistake), I carried them both around for two weeks trying to decide which one to keep. My wife thought I was nuts. I kept the plain green micarta one because it felt better in my hand than the burl/mosaic pinned one that Stretch now has.

Like I have said, I don't usually feel under-knifed with the Mini Canadian, but I have felt like having a slightly larger (but not huge) knife at times. The Highland Special seems about right and the the price is acceptable for the micarta handled versions.

The smallish size of Bark Rivers, particularly the handles, is an advantage unless you have serious meat hook hands - the knife feels much more controllable. My one large knife, a Becker Crewman, is so bulky and cumbersome that it doesn't get used much (although it is a good knife).

Foilist, good point about the size of Bark R handles.Unless you HAVE a YETI sized paw then large handles are cumbersome and unwieldy, frankly, who wants to go toting some clumsy sized bayonet when hiking:D

Moreover, BRKT make a very big range of knives in many sizes. I've yet to hear of somebody disliking these knives or being disappointed either.

I like me some Bark River Knives!

The Bosnian Skinner is hollow ground. It would be fine for skinning. Very few Barkies have hollow ground blades. I prefer the full convexed ones.

I have handled hundreds of BRKT knives--they are second to none imo. Don't be afraid of the size of the knives--they are almost always smaller than you think, but they function perfectly. I have actually become a HUGE fan of the smaller knives because of their superior design.

You won't go wrong, but if you do, you can always send it back and try a different one! Most legitimate BRKT dealers have an exchange policy.

One warning--be sure you buy from a dealer that actually has knives in stock because there are a lot of them out there that just list evrything their distributor lists. Many times (because BRKT knives change all the time and are limited runs) they can't even get the knives they are trying to sell.
