Hey there guys.

I have the opportunity to buy one of two BM's

Ones a FBM the other a FFBM.

The FBM is the black and obviously the FFBM is the green

The knife is to be a user, with hunting trips and camps etc. not really life or death stuff at the moment but when you're a 10 hour trip from home you wanna be prepared.

So whats the general feel? is either as good? It'll be a chopper obviously I have the AD for smaller work so what are the pros and (dare I) cons?

Does it even matter?

cheers guys

Either one will last you a lifetime, and if you use equal edge profile there'll be no performance difference, so you just as well might go with the one you like better (appearance-wise). There's no "right" or "wrong" choice here.

However, in true hog-style: get both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,
Rok

I like them both, but the CG FBM is my favorite. The only way I would pick a user fatty over the CG, is if the fatty has standard handles. The FFBM with mags is pretty hefty to be swinging all day. Really depends on your size, and what's more comfortable to you. YMMV

Based on the shadows and of the handle contouring that I can see, I surmise that the top has Magnum handles, and the bottom has Standard handles. But, the top has a thinner blade (0.250 inches) with CBT (Corrugated Bevel Technology), and the bottom has a thicker one (0.320 inches). My solutions to such decisions is to simply buy both.:thumbup:

You could get both, try them out, and sell the one you don't like as much on the exchange here. You may not get the same price you payed if it's used, but you will get MOST of your money back on the one you sell. Not a bad loss if you get what actually fits your needs the best.

Fatigue, Handle Feel, and Chopping Preformance related to your style of knife handling all come into play and trying both out is a win/win situation for you.

I have had both and think the regular is better for a user while the fatty is better for "fun." The regular is lighter and you will not get as tired from using it, but I think it has just about the same performance as the fat version.

If you are a really strong guy then the weight probably wont matter that much and the fatty will be good. Otherwise, the regular version makes more sense to carry on long trips.

The FBM is a knife that I am not going to be carrying on my person while camping, hunting, etc., regardless of thickness. Just too heavy for that. Therefore, since it is essentially a chopper, and in my case would live in the truck, I would go with the thicker one.

My ZTSH-E is the heaviest Busse that I make a habit of actually wearing.

What Chocula said...

If you're going to pack it and use it a lot, CG all the way.

The Fat is fun and is an impressive hunk of INFI, but the CG is a better camp user IMO.

I have no experience with FFBM's but i think the FBMLE (about the same thickness as FFBM) has better balance and feels better than the FBM, but if you'll be moving a lot i wouldn't want the extra weight of the fatty.

I had 3 standard FBM's and was able to get one of the first FAT ones.

First impression was, "DANG! now THIS is a knife !"

Second impression was, "Hmmmm, this is too heavy to use for anything BUT chopping and it'll tire me out pretty dang quick."

I sold it. I'd say get the standard FBM, as it's more versatile.

It does NOT share the same balance as the LE. The FFBM has a saber grind (ie; the grind doesnt' go all the way up from edge to spine) while the LE has a FULL HEIGHT grind (ie; it DOES go all the way from edge to spine)

This makes ALL the difference in balance and feel. The FFBM, flat and heavy, the LE, lively and lithe. (look it up!)

Get the standard FBM.
.

My vote will have to be for the CGFBM. I feel that its weight and balance is more suitable as a general all arounder while the FFBM is just a pure chopping machine. I have both in various configurations and love them both. However, no one will ever convince me to pack a FFBM other than in the trunk of my car. The CGFBM is about the max weight that I would consider packing. Even then it is already too heavy for me.

I would say choose the one that feel and looks better to you. I suppose a little extra weight wouldn't kill you ;)

They are trying to steer you the wrong way......FAT FAT FAT!!!!!!! But no matter what...Standard Grips!

hehehe.... There is really no wrong choice here. Just a matter of personal preference. But YES, get the Standard Grips!

Gimme the CG. FAt is TOO fat. Too much to swing.

So, fondle: Fat. They are fondle'able.

Use: CG. Less fatigue.

It's been said already, but get both. YOU feel what would be best for you, and then sale the other. I agree with the CGFBM. If you are going to wear it and use it, go with the lighter weight. BUUTTT, If you are a truck camper and weight is not an issue, go with the FFBM. It all comes down to YOU. Up or down, left or right, decisions, decisions. GOOD LUCK.
