I am going to purchase my first becker and have it narrowed down to three. Should I grab a BK 2, BK 9, or hold out for a BK 6? This is kind of like the follow up to my first thread so lets see those votes:thumbup:

Yes. :D

Seriously, I voted for the 9 as a first knife, but only because its sheer power will suck you into the vortex of additional knives. :p

Those are all three very different blades. What do you plan as primary uses?

Guyon, I am just going to be using it here in the mountains of Eastern KY. Nothing specific as I have a few other blades for specific tasks, I just want to add a few Beckers to the arsenal. Most of the use it would see would be hiking and camping. Wood processing, clearing a few trails, general camp duties, etc...

For the items in red, I'd say BK-9. For the item in green, I'd go with the BK-2.
The BK-9 can still do a lot in terms of general camp duties, however.
It's just going to be a bit big/unwieldy if you're trying to slice smaller foods and such.

get the 9 - just be careful when cutting pie that you don't cut through the sides of the pie pan...

Don't know what else you own, but having a large knife to chop/process wood is great.
I spent lots of time in Red River Gorge years ago. I seem to remember the wood was often wet. Back then I wish I had more knowledge and something like a Becker to get into some dry wood. Live and learn.
I guess it depends on what else you own, and take to the woods. Some guys like an axe, others a chopper.
If you only had one knife, maybe the BK2 is the way to go.

if you CAN get a BK6 (a real one, not a chinese knockoff), do so :) regardless. they're very hard to get.

otherwise, well, a 2 or a 9. depends on what you NEED it for right? eventually you'll get both, so ... xmas comes early.

is this some kind of subliminal message to get me to buy a 9??

anyhow my votes on both if you can swing it now, if not get the 9..

its my next purchase....

btw, guyon i hate you:D

ditto, that's why i voted for bk-9. the bk-2 will clear tree limbs too but you'll be a lot less tired with the bk-9's better leverage.

Is there a way to spot the knock offs of the BK 6 without having it in hand?

i believe the nasty ones have a picture of ethan on the box, holding the thing; the originals never had that :jerkit: wrong boxes too.

also, they are shipping from china/hong-kong

also also, the blades came as silver or some-other suspicious thing. iirc.

and they wanted something like $150 for them ;)

plus they had the not quite right shape to them ;)

additionally i think they were pimped as being made of 440C.

i printed a copy of the offending ebay ad i saw, but forgot to snag it as a PDF, oh well :)

Ok, out of 20 votes its 11 for the BK 9 and 9 for the BK 2!! Looks like I might just have to go ahead and order both:eek: All I need is another knife addiction:D

That's only in the signature series, high quality there :p

what the Becker God said,

I voted for the 2 , after you buy that get a 9 and then buy the 6. How can you possibly go wrong with anyone of those knives, they are all great.
