I voted for the 2, but only because you didn't list the 7 as an option. Otherwise things would've gone differently... :)

I asked more or less the same question after I got my BK-11 (Ok - I tried to narrow it down between the 2, the 7 and the 9) and I think the BK-9 was the most popular suggestion. Of course, I bought the BK-2. Doesn't matter - you'll love whichever one you get and you'll get the other one later too.

It's the law.

Beckerhead #42

I thought about this question for a few weeks(between the 2 and 9) and ended up deciding on getting the 9 for christmas.

Next I'm buying myself a 14, then going for the 2 in April for my birthday.

Never had a BK2 yet, but have one on the way now. Never heard of the BK6 but I did have the BK9 and do have the BK7 which I love. For my uses I do expect the BK2 to become my favorite though. I was sitting tonight and writing down the tests I plan to put it through, should be fun.

I voted for the 9. It was my first purchase in the realm of knives and WOW what a knife! Will definitely suck you into BECKERHEAD-ism!

We can hardly wait to see what you do, Mist. Nobody does a show and tell about knives the way you do.:D

I say the 2 since it is such a good all purpose knife without being "too big". (As if such a thing exists! Pfft!)

i smell democratic –manipulation in this poll. I vote BK7 and BK7 again!!! Personally I never liked the thick beltknife aka bk2 and the anorectic chopper called the 9. So my third vote:confused:, if that is possible, will be the Brute...love its looks, if its produced again send me one!

the BK9 is not that anorexic...

o Camillus era
oo Shape: clip point
oo Edge Angle: 20 degrees
oo Grind: flat
oo Steel: 0170-6
oo Rc hardness: 58-59
oo Blade length: 9 inches
oo Overall length: 14.75 inches
oo Blade thickness: 0.21 inches
oo Knife Weight: 18.25 ounces
oo Handle: Esta-Loc or Grivory-GV-6H
oo Sheath: Kydex
oo Origins: knife made in USA, sheath made in china
oo MSRP: US$96.50

compare to Brute:

o Camillus era
oo Shape: drop point
oo Edge Angle: ? degrees
oo Grind: flat
oo Steel: 0170-6
oo Rc hardness: 58-59
oo Blade length: 9.5 inches
oo Overall length: 15 inches
oo Blade thickness: 0.25 inches
oo Knife Weight: 22 ounces
oo Handle: Esta-Loc or Grivory-GV-6H
oo Sheath: Kydex
oo Origins: knife made in USA, sheath made in
oo MSRP: US$159

difference of less than 4 ounces, and .25 inches. as you can see in texastonydobbs's they are of a size together. now perhaps we need to have a "chop off", but a lot of people report the BK9 wins. some others prefer the BK1.

still and all, we've been told that the BK1 is not coming back. ever. so, getting used to that is :) i can understand your passion though, about giving it up, here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ but you may have to say good-bye :)

Camillus era......compare to.....Camillus era

 I think you try to say the top one is Kabar era. Althouth the webpage gives different info. Correct me if im wrong.
btw the video from the link is removed

Would like to see a pic of the era's side to side. comparing the pics on kabar.com and the forum does give some design differences but is doesnt really work out.

If the design is different the blade CAN be thinner so it remains its strength. But I need prove.....PICS!!!

Bladite is comparing the BK9 to the Brute, both made by Camillus. I noticed what you did and had to read it more carefully. To me the brute is very close to a BK9 recurve. That is a mod that would not be difficult to do.

the link works as of a minute ago, it might not let you play if you are out of USA (never run into that). weird.

there's enough pix in this thread to compare Camillus BK1 Brute to Camillus BK9 Combat Bowie. they're almost the same length to not matter, and almost the same weight.

since the current KaBar BK9 has different specs, i did not include those (as Cody1 has noted). Era to Era comparison. Texastonydobbs's appear to be both Camillus, as do Guyon's further up, where you can see all the models.

i myself prefer the Machax, and felt that it has always out chopped the Brute, which is one of the reasons i put the Brute aside and almost always have a Machax ready to go :)

The Machax should eventually come back, the Brute never according to our Kings :>

One more question. Which will be the better chopper between the patrol machete and the BK 9?

and if you REALLY want a bolo, this will do:

https://www.kabar.com/product_detail.jsp?productNumber=1248
or THIS
https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=1249

perhaps the Johnson Adventure Potbelly as well. that's STOUT. all KaBar goodness.
https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=5600

quite nicely in fact. i think i might be adding one of these to my list.

Oh, that Potbelly is the bees knees. I am gettin' one soon, as in before Christmas, and I plan to do a very, very thorough test of that fella. The grip and the different grips available because of the design, intrigue me, as, the specs say Chop-o-matic, but if you change the grip to choke up on the blade, it looks to balance well for more control. Made in the USA, and a Kabar product, if it only was made by Becker it would be perfect, alas, I will have to settle for pure BA knive. LOL:D
