Which Benchmade are you carrying today?

Still carrying the blue twill M2.
I took off the black coating just down to scratch level. It came off really easily.
320 grit drum sander & puff (small black cloud), it's gone.
Truly, I spent like Seconds sanding.
So, no mirror or polished finish, but no big scratches either.
None of my scratches had any rust in them. So I am hopeful that even though I have removed most of the surface coating; some of the coatings anti corrosive properties still remain.
I love M2.

I was always such a fan of the 705, GB940Rookie GB940Rookie , because it was a literal scale-down of and great companion for the 710 that I sort of pooh-poohed its replacement, the 707 Sequel. I wasn't real big on the aluminum scales either, but got one new for a real sweet price and started to appreciate the knife more. I had a pair of CF DOATs that came additional to one of the 705s I'd bought back when and put them on my 707. I'm liking that knife even more now. It has an excellent blade shape and came stupid sharp out of the box, to the extent that I cut myself twice swapping out the scales.

Never had the pleasure of handling a 705 but love my 707 dearly. I have no problem with the aluminum scales but those DOATs really step it up a notch. Nice!
The 707 cut you because you were initially talking smack about it. Now you're even :p

Headed off to work......with my aluminum scaled 940 :D

How is the recurve to sharpen?
I use a Sharpmaker, so not bad at all. It's subtle enough not to make a huge difference. I've never had an issue with recurves using a SM or rods.
One hears so much about dislike for re-curves and that they're hard to sharpen, which seems to be the source of much of that dislike. I like lots of different blade shapes, including re-curves which are handy in some applications and others not so much. They are indeed very easy to sharpen with rods or on the SharpMaker, but I also bought the narrow hones for my EdgePro and they work very well. Eventually they'll wear unevenly, edges first, and will develop convex surfaces, but that's actually advantageous for recurves.

I like that 698, b&w--nice knife. That's been on my list for a while.

I'm sure you're right about why I got cut changing out the scales on my 707, GB940Rookie GB940Rookie --just the Knife Gods wreaking vengeance on me for disrespecting a good knife that I eventually came to like. Dumb human.

Anyway I ended up sorta going full-circle yesterday on a knife purchase. I've been looking for a BlueStar pair for quite a while to go along with my DarkStars. I saw a Mini BlueStar (mis-identified as a DarkStar) on the Exchange for an extremely nice price, and, while it seemed in otherwise good condition, it had a very unfortunate and un-correctable re-profile done to the blade and I kept myself from buying it as I knew it would always bother me.

I kept scrolling through the Exchange and found a LNIB ZT 0920 Les George for a great price, posted "I'll take it", and PM'd the seller. Unfortunately, I just missed it as it had been sold by PM, so I Googled BlueStar and found a full-size basically BNIB on the Big Auction Site. The seller was someone I'd done business with before so I was OK buying there even though I'm often leery about that sales venue. I spent a bit more than I wanted on it, too, but they're hard to find and this one looks super.

I was so pumped about it that I took my DarkStars to work with me today. :D
