Which Benchmade are you carrying today?

Found a "Like New" 585s on eBay last week for a great price. Was wondering how I'd like an Axis-assist knife, so...took a chance. Been carrying it this week and am very happy with it. I still like a manual (the Bugout is so much fun to play with), but...this guy could take the place of the auto I've been drooling over...at least for a little while.

I’ve been wanting to dip my toes into the Benchmade world for a long time now. I couldn’t decide between the Mini Crooked River and the 940-2, so I ordered the MCR new, and the 940-2 used from here for a great price. They both arrived today!

The used 940-2 came in great shape, though because it was previously owned I decided to give it the spa treatment I typically give my new traditionals — a good flushing/cleaning/sharpening. Man that action came alive with the flushing and cleaning. Plus, those purple barrel spacers the previous owner installed are sweeeeet.

HOWEVER, I tried to sharpen it on my WorkSharp like I do to literally every other knife I own and I could not raise a burr to save my life. I just made it duller. And somehow in my frustration I managed to round off the tip. So long story long I decided to send it to Benchmade and drop the $30 for a brand new blade. All together I’m still paying substantially less than it would be new. And now it will essentially be new as the G10 handles are flawless.

As for the Mini Crooked River, it’s flawless so far as I can tell. Perfect centering. No blade play. The action is smooth, though not as smooth as the used 940-2 — I suspect that it will improve with use. And it is by far the sharpest new knife I have ever received.
