Which Benchmade for EDC?

+1 for the mini-Ritter and then get some custom scales from Keyman. Can't go wrong!

Doug Ritter Mini-Grip
I've got 2 myself M2 & M4 models; excellent for EDC.
Even where blades should be at a minimum.
Small and unassuming, but it's still got a good sized blade that's up for any task.
It almost disappears in the pocket.
Excellent knife.

I agree here also. Mine have Wilkins grips but it goes in my right front pocket with no clip and it carries well.

By the way my comment on the BM710 above was due to great deal from you Danny. Thanks! :) I have a set of custom scales on the way for the 710 also.

I like the 943 better than the 940. Try to get the Carbon fiber or Titanium handle. This excellent EDC would be even better with a CPM S-90-V blade.

Whenever you get it get it from(hope I'm not breaking any rules) Cuttleryshoppe. They have a 25% off discount code plus free shipping if you use the code nutnfancy

I recommend either the 525BK-1101 Mini Presidio w/ 3" CPM-M4 blade or the 551BK Griptilian w/ 3.4" CPM-M4 blade.

I would suggest(If you want the plastic type handles):
BM 555 Mini Grip
BM 558 Ritter Mini Grip
BM 530

If you prefer G-10, Metal, and wood handles:
BM Mini Bone Collector
BM 707
BM 960
BM 440

If you like assisted:
BM 585 Mini Barrage
BM 470 Emissary

The ones I would really look at off of that list are:
Mini Bone Collector
960
440 Opportunist
470 Emissary

All have good steel and nice fit and finish, they all fit in your price range, all have blades of around 3".
I am not normally huge on Benchmade(designs just aren't for me) but I really like all 4 of these knives.

If you wanted to look at other knives as well, Spyderco has some excellent knives in that price range, and Kershaw has the Leek in several flavors. The CRKT Eros and Ripple are worth a look as well.

Good luck in your hunt!

As others have mentioned, the 940 is probably the best edc knife out there. The only down side are the 470 and 940 are almost to nice to use.

I disagree. I don't have a lot of money to spend on knives, and given that it is the most expensive knife I own by a factor of at least three, I consider my 943 too nice NOT to use! Yes, it's all scuffed up by my keyring, but still the best knife I've ever carried bar none, and the nicest looking, scuff marks and all.

If anyone has pictures of their 943, black or orange mini ritter/grip post them up!

Here's mine, carried daily for six months, along the the offending keyring:

If it's not apparent by now, put me in the "+1" camp for the 943 (I expect the 940 is just as good, but I didn't care for the blade shape). It's a great EDC knife! It may be worth nothing that my sample set is small though, having gone from a Spyderco Delica1 to no EDC knife for several years to a few cheap Enlan and SRM knives. I did a ton of research, but haven't owned any of the other knives on this thread for a direct comparison.

My first good knife was a mini-Barrage in all black serrated. Search youtube for mini-barrage and watch Jimbofox's review. It has a little more meat to the handle then some of the others, and I like the assisted opening. But you can't really go wrong with many of the other suggestions.

I'm one of these folks who thinks that since all Benchmades cut stuff, you just pick one that you like and go for it.

Hey yall, I ordered a 943 satin plain edge from KW. It shoud be here Friday. Thank yall for the help. Ill probably end up with a mini ritter eventually (hopefully with some wilkins scales on it.)

I like the blade shape on the 940 a bit more, but the 943 is a fine knife, I'm sure you'll love it!
