Hey guys, question for you. If you could have only one Benchmade for EDC which one would it be and why? I'm going by the gun shop this afternoon and they have a good selection of Benchmade's, and I'm in the market for one. Give me some opinions please. Thanks.:)

Definitely the 710 in M2 steel. This baby will do most anything. It's big enough for the big chores, but the blade shape allows for smaller chores with that pointy tip. For its size, it's weight is quite reasonable, and the handle isn't so thick as to be uncomfortable. It's just an awesome knife, any way you look at it. The blade geometry also makes it a heck of a cutter. I love my large Sebenza, but the 710 is a very close competitor.

I am fond of my 690. It has a very stout blade and it looks really nice. Good blade steel, blue titanium liners, nice pocket clip.

I also really like my 940. It's all really about personal taste. I like all of my benchmades just the 690 and 940 a little more than the others.

The 710 is a good knife and lends itself to every-day utility tasks very well, if you're looking for something a bit smaller and prettier, the 940 gets a lot of praise. I advise you to handle as many as you can, see which one appeals to you the most, and how it feels in your hand. Get the one that most suits your personal taste and needs. Good luck, i hope you find something suitable :)

Benchmade 806 AFCK 2 Axis with plain edge D2 blade.

Better steel, smoother then a babies but and the AFCK's legendary ergonomics. close call between the 710 HSS tough, but i like the AFCK more. Just feels better in the hand.

Greetz and take care all,

Bart.

Model 730, and an older AFCK, I've always got at least one if not both clipped to my pocket, and bottom line after using a lot of different knives,Gerbers, SOG, Spyderco, CRKT, Benchmade, and a few customs, the AFCK flicks open so slick, and when the titanium linerlock slams into place, it just feels right, almost like an extension of my hand. Same goes for the 730 Ares, and isn't that how a well made knife should feel?

BM 42
or
BM 42s
or
BM 43

I'd have to go with the 710 also. But the 940 is very appealing as well. Having only one BM would create an anxiety-producing situation.

I have 4 BMs, a Vapor 2, and a Voyager that I'll clip to pocket. But the 730 gets the nod more often than the others (750, 806, 690)

I seem to carry my 705 the most. It's a great size for most EDC uses, but small enough that you don't notice that you're carrying it.

My 710 would be a close second.

If you are not concerned about size, I would agree that a 710 in M2 is beast of a knife.

But if you want a knife that is smaller and lighter, I would cast my vote for a 941 or 943.

If you don't want to spend a whole lot, then a Griptillian is what you want :)

I preffur my 941 Blue though!

The Blue BM940 would get my vote if it didn't have the dual thumbstuds.

Mine had a tendency to "wave" itself open when I pulled it out.

Annoyed the heck out of me. Had to get rid of it.

710HSSR

That's the M2 plus partially serrated blade. The 710 is tops in utility performance, so you might as well go with the serrated portion of knife. I cut things all the time with my serrations- not slice, but cut, by pushing down. The teeth of the serrations bite into soft material like tubing or something similar. They are SHARP, too.

That is a tough one. I guess that I would go with a BM555s Mini-Griptillian. Small enough to take with you all the time, great ergronomics, the blade will take a wicked edge and yet is easy to sharpen and keep sharp.

If you dont' like the 'plastic' handles, then a BM 940s would be tops!

Another vote for the 710. It is a really good knife. I also like my 940 (I've only had it a couple of days) for EDC because to me it is a perfect size and weight. I also like my Griptilian, also a good EDC. The 705 is a good choice as well. I think if you get any one of these knives there is no way for you to be unhappy. Good luck! :D

I will go with the 550 plain-edge Griptilian. No matter what other knife I am carrying, I always have it with me. Not necessarily the prettiest, but easy to maintain, tough as nails and a very solid cutter.

Also like the 710, I have one in ATS34 and another in 154CM.

And maybe someday will get a 940...

Jim

I would agree with the others, the 710HS is a great choice. The Griptillian is also worth checking out, but it depends on your preference in handles and what feels comfortable to you.
