Which BK?

So I've basically decided to purchase a BK as an all around, multi use survival knife, but which one? I don't plan on taking extremely long treks into uncharted territory for weeks at a time, just basically average fishing, hunting, and camping trips. I don't plan on packing a lot of excess gear such as hatchets and what not, just basically a survival knife and probably a 4 inch folder. I had all but decided on the BK7, but then got to looking at the BK10 and BK2. So what would everyone recommend?

I love the 7 for everything you described. The 16 is also a great option. Don't sleep on the 4 either...

Of those 3 I would reccomend the 10. I would add though that the BK 12 is also fantastic and somewhere between the 10 and 7, but with the shape of the 2. Pricy though, compared to the first three.
If you bring a good folding saw, then any of the tweeners would serve you very well for camp work. If you NEED a bigger blade than the tweeners, its damn hard to beat the 10 for the price.

BK9 all the way.
IMO it's best Becker.
I made a video a while back on BK9 vs BK7, just search on YouTube BK9 vs BK7 and it's the first vid that pops up.

7's not a bad choice. It's a jack of a lot of trades, master of none sort of knife IMO. But that makes it a good all-around.
If you're willing to spend a little more, I agree with Silverthorn that you might have a look at the BK12.
Or as it's also known, the Doug Ritter RSK® Mk2 Perseverance™. :p http://www.dougritter.com/dr_rsk_mk2.htm

Oops... double tapped, so here's a 12 (bottom) next to a 2 (top) and a 10 (middle).

I'd consider a 16. great all round knife, for something beefier it would be a 2 or 7 for me.

Ooooh, that bk12 is sweet! Doesn't seem to be available though. I'd like something with a blade at least 5.5 or longer.

I think they come in batches. You can email KW and see when the next batch is expected.

I'd also suggest to consider a 16. It is a very useful design and size. You did mention something bigger, so in that case I'd agree with those that suggested the 10 or 12.

If you think the 10 is big enough, that would be the better value. If the larger size is more appealing, then I think the higher cost would be justified for the 12.

Personally, the 12 is the next Becker on my list!

The answer your looking for resides in blade length. Pick the length you're comfortable with, and that will tell you which BK to get. You mentioned a blade at 5.5" or longer, so you need to know your limit. If length isn't an issue go with the 9, or the 4.

If you don't already have a 9 then that's the first one to get. You're welcome. You need a BK9. You can't not have a 9. The 9 comes before all else. Before other knives, before clothes, before food, and even before beer! It's that important.

No pictures of grinning, naked, starving, sober guys with a big knife. Nope, that's over the line.

why a 4" folder?
check out the BK24 -- 3" fixed blade, fits in a pocket, no need to worry about gumming up the pivot or lock failure.

I often pack just the folding saw, BK16, and remora and do not feel "under-knifed" for weekend outings -- although i do understand the allure and comfort of a larger knife on my belt, at which point I have to vote for the BK12.
