Which blade (BM 810 vs ZT 200) would you consider tougher/more durable?

I'd get a ZT 0560/0566 over the 0200. There's really nothing I like about it except it looks cool and the grip looks comfortable. Not a huge fan of the 810 either though but would pick it over the 0200. Better steel, better blade shape, prefer axis lock over liner lock. I don't like the 810's handle shape and the jimping is out of control ( borderline painful when using). The 0560/0566 are as strong or stronger than the 0200 and the they have better steel and blade shape. The 810 would be my choice over the 0200 but would suggest a BM 275 Adamas or 610/615 Rukus over the 810. I really like M4 though. Wish BM used it on more models.

I appreciate all the advice and feedback, though i think a few missed my point (i.e., i own both knives already). It is interesting seeing the overwhelming support for the 200..

So, while i do like the feel and overall design of the 200, its lock has already let me down, part of my slightly negative view of it. I did a moderate spine whack to help get some crud off, and sure enough, the lock let go. I know my finger was not one the lock, so i was bummed that it gave that easy.

The 810 wins some points with the lock, and better steel, though lost some points on the blade play requiring extreme tightness.

Anyway, keep the opinions coming.. i value any real world input people have. Yes, i own both right now, but haven't put them to the test like others have, hence input being valuable.

I know what you mean with the play on the 810. I have one that had side to side because the lock pin was a bit to long and made the liners not parallel. Send it in and don't take no for an answer. I had a BM tech call me on the phone and we talked through what the issue was and what he needed to do for me to consider it fixed. That's some good CS imo. Knife is absolutely perfect now.

Awesome, thank you for your worthless and specifically non asked for reply. Your "pictures" will totally help sway me in my debate between the two knives. What ever would I have done without your "knowledge"...

/s,
You asked, what is your pick between the two ... then you ridicule someone for illustrating their answer (one that I happen to also agree with, given the terms of your question ). Some have a hard time understanding the fan-boyism surrounding this "flipper craze". I do not mean to take away from the ZT0200 as I believe it & the 0350 (de-assisted) happen to be two of ZT's best overall designs for a folding knife.

Between the two knives you have asked, the knives are so different, from a user fit perspective, that it seems silly to ask someone else for generic comparative advice.

See the humor, accept that others may have alternate perspectives, rely on your personal experiences to make educated choices & forget those who parrot others.

Regards,

Perhaps then i am misunderstanding the "humor" of his post - I took his post to be bashing all folders; and not just representative of either the 810 or 200. If i am wrong, i can be the bigger man and say i screwed up, but i do feel his post was NOT obvious. :P For what its worth, the flipper is an afterthought for me and the knife; i chose it on blade shape and overall build first and foremost..

Anyway, they are different, but i have heard both camps refer to the ruggedness of each blade, so i thought it interesting to compare them. Truth be told, i am carrying both now - one in my EDC bag, one in my pocket. But i like to keep the absolute best on me, hence me thinking...

@DM - mind my asking which you feel "best" and why? Curious ... :-)

A fair question, though i admit i am having a hard time finding a solid answer.

I like the ZT for its overall feel, blade shape, and build, but have to take off points for a lock failure, and the difficulty of field sharpening (well, could get a rough edge).
I like the BM for the ease of carry, great steel, and lock (that hasn't failed me... yet). But, it loses points for having the blade play, and for only being tip up (didnt mention that in the thread yet, but i am NOT a fan of tip up.. no reason past personal preference).

Overall, i do think the ZT can likely take more abuse, but i oddly find myself playing with the BM more, and picking it up first.

I don't have a ZT200, but I do have a ZT301 and a couple of ZT560s. I also have the KW exclusive BM 810. I like the looks of the 810 and have been carrying it recently instead of the 560. My enthusiasm for the 560 has lessened to what I believe is early premature lock face wear.

If the ZT's that I have is a good approximation of the 200, I would choose the ZT as stronger and more durable than the 810. The blade geometry of the 810 makes me think it will snap before the ZT with its beefier blade geometry.

From everything you have written so far, I would say (based on having one knife, for a midterm period of time) that you should be considering other options. You seem to have multiple issues with both of these knives.

Would make sense to me to make a list of duties you would have for the living conditions expected (food prep, woodworking, etc., etc.), then then look for characteristics (blade geometry, ergonomics, ease of maintenance, etc.) in a knife that correspond to the duties vs. which one is fun to play with ...

Its all personal preference really. I have a zt 0566bw and love it. Its a strong strong knife and the elmax steel gets shaving sharp. This knife to me feels nothing short of hard use. Now on the ones you mention I prefer the 0200. I've handled both and while both feel solid I hate the 810 handle feel. My hand is bigger and the notches in the handle don't line up to my hand making it uncomfortable. The 0200 is way more comfortable and even though it has 154 I believe it will be good enough for anything you can throw at it. To me both Zts are way more comfortable to use and feel sturdier.

I think the adamas is a better knife to stack up against the 200. I vote for the 200. But I would take an adamas over a 200.
