which blade shape is the best for SD?

slash... why I feel like bowie slashes better than hawkbill? I mean, it feels easier to slash into targets.

Yes a Bowie knife does slash better than a hawkbill for alot of reasons.

First is the blade design, long heavy blade with a large cutting area. The knife will cut with it's own weight, and the weight forward design puts all the power into the cut.

And Bowies are of the Clip point design with a sharpend or false edge and the point is near or on the center of the blade..Which makes it easier to hit you target on a thrust.

And the Bowie is a great stabbing weapon too because of the narrow point and the Clip design lets it slip through the target without alot of force.

The blade lenght, usually 8" or better has the reach in a stabbing attack to reach the vitals.

We are talking about a time tested design here, tested in battle for over 100 years. There is no better design than a Bowie for a true fighting knife..

Also, a bowie, or any knife with a belly instead of a hook for a cutting edge, can slash and keep on moving, to come back for another slash or a stab. A hawksbill can get hung up and be harder to withdraw.

Esav Benyamin,

I just don't get why some people think these "toys" are fighting knives, they aren't. They look cool I guess...:confused:

I think there is alot of hype and bad Info going around these days, puny knives and serrated edges......that's not a fighting knife, that's a toy. ;)

For a serious SD blade, I would suggest the Emerson Commander.

My primary reasons for liking this blade are;

the belly, just right for slashing,
the slip proof grip on the G10 handle
and of course, the patented Wave feature for lightning quick deployment. :D ;)

Just my .02
