O.K. last question people. There are sveral AFCK's on the market, I will go with the hole opener, so which model is best? P.S. I know I ask alot of dumb ?'s but you people know your s**t and can guide me in the right direction. Thanx alot for all your help! :)

The Axis Lock AFCK with a D2 blade is the top of the line for Benchmade's manual folders. Fine knife, for sure.

First i'd like to say, there are no dumb questions, just dumb people ;) .
I just got the 814HS in M2 steel w/liner lock (love it). Razor sharp, no play in the blade, excellent balance and super tight lock-up. The only thing i've done with it so far, is cut up an old X-mas tree box (about ten cuts, the edge was uneffected, I know it's not much of a test :o ).
I've got an 806D2 on order and will get it Monday. I'll chime back in later next week and let you know what I think.

Agreed! That is going to be my next knife!

I will add my vote to the others---the 806D2 is a true gem, and the recent ones are being shipped with bronze bushings and drilled/tapped for right/left, tip up/down carry.

All of my AFCK's have liner locks and Benchmade generally does a good job with liner locks.

My 705's of course have the Axis. The axis is a bit better mostly because it is probably less likely to unlock accidentally.

Can't go wrong either way really.

M2 takes a wicked sharp edge, holds it well.

The older ATS-34 and/or it's heat treat from say 4+ years ago seems to beat the more recent 154cm (easier to sharpen and easier to get a great edge onto)... dunno how well BM does with their D2 heat treat as I don't own one.

The Axis 806D2, is definitely the better knife. Although you can get great deals on the older Liner lock models right now. If $ is not a problem, then go for the new stuff.

I personally enjoy the Axis lock on the Benchmades... Too bad that I don't think they have the round hole.

I will have to concur with rddangerer on the older AFCK's with ATS-34 blades. They should be Benchmade Model #800, and that would be a plain edge model with satin finish. A sweet knife and one of the smoothest opening factory folders on this planet. From my experience with axis locks, they are dam* fine works of art, but I still do not think the actions are as smooth as the original 800 liner locks. Any of the AFCK's will do just fine. Big D1

Well mine's the old school ATS 34 liner version and I am very happy with it.

I've not tried the 806D2 yet but all that I've heard on the forums about it has been positive.

One thing that I really do like about axis locks is that they have that locking bias which makes me more confident that the knife won't open in my pocket.

2 of my all time favs are the 800-S and the 806-SD2, i prob carry those 2 more than anything. i have complete confidence in the lock on both of them. that said, i like the 806 better (the axis) mostly 'cuz ya can manipulate the button and flip them open/closed so easy, and they lock up tight.

i would have to say the axis is gonna be, if not already is, a revolutionary thing in knives, like the EKI wave or the spydie hole, imho. the axis works, period end

Bladeswinger,

I'm also from central Ohio, Canal Winchester. Go to General Merchandise Surplus on east Broad in Summit Station, they usually have a good selection of Benchmades and may have the 806D2 in stock. You might also want to call around to Vances and New Albany Shooting Range to see if they have any in stock.

Good luck!

BTW I've got the old style partialy serrated AFCK 800, it still kicks butt!:D

Recently in another thread a member argued that the Axis lock AFCK in D2 is the all around best folder (or at least best factory folder). I would not challenge this, but will point out that a number of other knives have better feeling handles. I am partial to the Emerson Commander, for example. Still I can see how someone would say the AFCK is best, looking at all aspects of the knife.

Just got my 806D2 and I don't like it  .
Reasons being,
1. The edge is rolled in a couple small spots (Not a big deal, the first sharpening will get rid of that).
2. Tip up carry (My bad for not paying closer attention)
3. It has to much play compared to my 814M2HS (This is probably due to the larger blade and AXIS lock). and my main reason for dislike,
4. the edge is not sharpened the entire length of the blade (This is something I hate with a passion. If I had seen one pic that acurately displayed this, I never would have bought it. (My 814 M2HS is sharpened the entire length of the blade.))

Some good things are: it is as smooth as s#@t through a goose, perfectly balanced, sharp as hell and the AXIS lock simply kicks a$$.

Now I have to decide if I want to extend the edge the length of the blade, send it back for a refund, sell it or make a trade  .

How can the edge not be sharpened along the entire length of the blade? Is it just dull?

Or maybe there's a special limited edition butterknife version. :)

Mine should be in the mail right now. I got the one that can be switched between tip-up and tip-down carry.
