Since getting my BM mini Grip I'm impressed with the quality and I've come to like the Axis lock. I'm now starting to think about what my next BM might be.

I like the look of the 806D2 AFCK

If any of you out there have one of these, let me know what you think of it. any problems with it? Do you consider it would be a good second purchase?

Excuse me if I post even though I do not own a 806. IMO, a mini-grip is hard to beat. It is rugged and it is quality for a great price. The 806 is very popular. The folks who like em realllllly like em! The steel is fine and they have good ergos. I like the G-10 and it's got an Axis lock OK. The profile of the blade is killer. But, you know, I'd get one if it weren't for the durn hole! :(

So, I've got a couple of 805's which are practically the same thing with a stud. Now the 805 has been D/Cd but there are still some floating around out there. Here's some pics of a recent acquisition of which there are some still around: ;)

Hello gajinoz

I have a Mini-Grip as well, a plain yellow 555, great little knife. The Axis lock is Benchmade's masterstroke. For their price catagory, they produce an outstanding quality knife.

I have the pleasure of owning a 425, which I keep at my desk. The blade steel is 154cm which holds a sharp edge very well, the scales are full G10 which is a great gripper. The ergonomics are outstanding, that handle is superb to hold and use  It has a full wharncliff blade, which I use for opening boxes and packages.

I see that you mentioned the Axis, now the 425 has a Modified Locking Liner lock. But It is well made and dependable, too

Hope this is helpful :)

Thanks for the reply.

The hole/stud thing is a personal choice item and it seems if you like one you hate the other. :)

I'm one of those weird buggers that actually like holes. My mini Grip is the 555 with the hole and I deliberately chose it mainly for that reason.

707 would be my vote too, this is a darling little knife that looks better in the hand than the photo's.

Image taken from 888 Knives R Us because Benchmade is too tight fisted to allow a link to their own products....  great marketing move. They still make a nice knife though :)

None! Do yourself a favor and get a Spydie! :D

Every Spyderco I buy ends up laying around in a drawer with all my other Spydercos. I just haven't found one yet that offers more than my other main EDC's.

I'd recommend the Benchmade Doug Ritter Grip or a 710.

The 710 certainly looks nice but I'm also impresed with that 707! Damn! I hate choices like this. I think all it would take to make either of those the perfect next choice is if they had holes rather than studs. I'm still giving some thought to the 806 so I'll be doing some more weight and size comparisons and trying to make up my mind. An embarrassment of riches you might say! :)

Have a good look at the 710HS - If you don't have something in M2 steel, do yourself a favour. This is probably my favorite steel for edge holding and sharpness. I'm no metalurgist, but for me, the M2 holds its edge longer than all the other high end steels knives that I own including S30V, VG10, 154CM or ATS34. Some people say that it is prone to rust, I have not had this problem with my 710HS. Its fit and finnish is close to perfect and being a slightly recurved blade shape, makes an excellent slicer.

Moron.

I'm sensing just a little irony.

I'm thinking the 806D2 would be a great choice. I got to handle an AFCK at a knife store and I really liked it; I especially found the the blade geometry and guard to be impressive. From what I understand, D2 is a great all-around steel, so all-in-all I'd say that's a good next knife. By the way, I'm a fan of the hole too.Thumb studs have a tendency to catch in my pockets, and I have a harder time engaging accurately.

I think i'll buy the mini 520 when thy come out. The 710 is a very good knife mybe one of benchmades best.

The 630 or 630-BK are amazing knives. S30V and Ti!!! The 806 might be a better choice if you are left-handed, and D2 is definitely a HARD-use steel. The 710 is also a really beautiful design that mates form and function, too.

These three are my favorite benchmade folders to date.

Depending on what kind of use, environment you carry in, and whether you like tip up or tip down carry, the choices tend to whittle themselves away in time... :)
