I have read many threads on both knives and still can not decide. Which would be better for everyday carry and use, the Pinnacle or the Axis?

Thank You.

Hold them in your hand and you will see.

Tatsu, David is right.. it is rather quite subjective.. it might even come down to which one you think looks nicer. If you have ther time you should 'test drive' them yourself.

In my opinion I chose the axis. Mind you I was put in the same predicament as you

the axis fits nice in the hand although the pinnacle surprisingly did so too (not as much in my opinion) - somethign I did not expect from just looking at it.

Hey! Lay off my Hosey COW!!!

My personal recommendation leans toward the Axis, but the guys are right. You might like the solid, Sebenza-like feel of the Pinnacle. Both have a pretty good grind style for general utilily, and both have a slight recurve which can make sharpening challenging; Spydie triangle stones work great on both for me.

If you're looking for a really sweet, pocket-sized model, try out the 705. Some think it's too small, but for small hands it's a good fit. Professor.

AFCK - great handling abilities, seats deep in pocket, SPYDERCO licensed opening hole instead the thumb stud makes this knife exceptionally snag-free when drawing.

i would choose the pinnacle. i have both and have carried both quite a bit. the axis lock is great to play with and is smooth beyond comparison. but the handle just doesn't do it for me. it's a little too narrow, top to bottom, and it curves the wrong way for me. the handle of the pinnacle really locks into my hand and i have great faith in the frame lock. i plan on getting a 730 axis lock when they come out in plain edge. looks like the handle will suit me better. the 720 is also really nice, but i normally don't care for aluminum handles. but like the other guys said, go to a knife shop and handle both...a lot. and the lock on the pinnacle does smooth up if that scares you intially.

The Pinnacle and the Axis are both pretty good- I'd go with the Pinnacle, I don't know why. But like Sergiusz said, don't exclude the AFCK- it has the most comfortable of all my knives, opening hole instead of stud or disk, and effective blade shape. Unless you already own the AFCK, that is.

I would also recommend the pinnacle. Don't be worried about sharpeing the slightly recurved blade. I am a sharpening novice and brought mine to "hair Popping" sharp on my spyderco sharpmaker in about 15 minutes. You honestly can't go wrong with this knife. Also, I doubt this will be the last knife you ever buy. Get the Pinnacle, if you are not thrilled with it(is that possible?

) Get the axis as your next purchase. You will still find a use for the Pinnacle, it will not be a waste.

Their weight is about the same.
Axis is a bit longer (has also longer
blade - 3.9" vs 3.5" in Pinnacle) but slimmer. So, if you prefer bolder handles, you shoud give Pinnacle a closer look.
Pinnacle has a titanium handle, Axis has
a G10 handle, which is a bit less prone to show any signs of wear. But titanium just
feels great
smile.gif
. The Pinnacle blade point is dropped more than in Axis which gives it a little "wilder" look. Pinnacles mono-lock
is great, but the axis lock (I think) kicks some serius butt.

The bottom line is that they are both
great knives. And as somebody pointed out,
it probably won't be your only knife. Check
some web pages with good pictures and pick
the one you like more.

Cheers.

I found the 750 hard to close with one hand, and it didnt feel as comfortable. Personal preference is what it comes down to. For me it was the axis. By the way, the 720 is the axis im referring to.

Yesterday I held the pinnacle and it is a really solid knife...but i still think the axis is "more solid" and "smoother". I guess you have to hold them for yourself

Didn't mention that in the previous post (tried to be impartial) but the one I carry is 710 axis. I do agree that it is smoother and I do like the slimmer handle better.

Based on locks, I would recommend the Axis. The Pinnacle version of the frame lock has been modified so that the contact point with the tang is extremely thin, so it is not as solid as you will find on most custom made knives using the same process. The disadvantage of the Axis Lock is that it relies on two omega shaped springs to actuate the mechanism. If the springs fail, so does the lock. At least it has the advantage of two springs, so it is unlikely that both will fail at once. The single spring in the REKAT Rolling Lock is a disaster waiting to happen.

But if you are looking for reliability, the advantage goes to the Pinnacle. You are as likely to snap the pivot pin as the lock bar in order to induce failure. It is too bad that Benchmade has not followed up with more knives using the “Monolock” as promised, but seem to be putting all their eggs in the Axis basket.

I'll add my vote to the AFCK. As a matter of fact, I like them so much I carry two, left and right handed versions, one in each front pocket.
