I was just looking at my collection list and thought it was interesting that of all the brands of knives I own three brands stand out the most for growing and shrinking and growing in my knife cabinet. They are Microtech, CRK and Benchmade. I have bought and sold/given away a lot of other brands but not as much as with these. For example with one of these I have sold or given away 10 but now own a different 10. So I guess I still like the brands but my interest in which model has changed.
On the other hand I also noticed there a number of brands that have left my collection never to be replaced

I suppose you have very deep pockets if youre giving away CRKS. not that its unheard of, ive seen folks give them away but i dont see it happening quite often. Before the costs went up, ive given away GEC knives among other brands in a different section of the forum.

some given some sold

Spyderco comes and goes for me. I could never sell a Cold Steel or Demko, but do give them as gifts to close friends and family.

I do not "collect" knives. That is, I do not buy or otherwise acquire knives to hold and appreciate or with the hope that they will go up in value.

I do buy knives as gifts for friends and family. In the past, I have bought and given away knives from Camillus, Ontario, Radmall, CRKT, AG Russel, Leatherman and Chris Reeve.

There is a cigar box in my closet that holds a few pocket knives and multitools that have been give4n to me by well mening fmily members . . .knives I would never buy myself because I don'ty want them, but cann ot give up becsause they wee gifts. Mostly Buck folders and multitools from China.

I have definitely sold and gifted more Kai/Kershaw brand knives than any other brand. I live close enough to go to the warehouse sale ever Dec. So Kershaw knives became Christmas gifts for family and friends. And before I retired I used to take them to work and sell them to my coworkers.

O.B.

I have sold then missed then rebought the Spyderco Farid K2 3 times now. God help me, I am considering another.

When I gift a knife it’s almost always a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. They are non-threatening to pretty much everyone, and just so useful. Also a good knife to introduce someone to pocket knife carry which sadly seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs for so many of our modern youth.

I had two briefly, but bought the second with the intention of sending it to a buddy. My other is in the keep pile, and I am keeping my eye out for a user one 😁 one of my favorite Spydercos!

For me, I have long had a habit of gifting knives to others, and Buck and Victorinox are the lion's share of those gifts over the years. Solid, dependable, sturdy, inexpensive if lost, not a bad way to go do it all things considered. As for knives I've bought, sold, then rebought, the only one that really springs to mind is the Spyderco PM2. I have probably had ten or more of them at this point, and they have always been let go, but my CruCarta version appears to be the one who got it to stick for me, as I love and enjoy that knife dearly and it has a permanent place in my collection.

I seldom sell a knife & never give one away.

Once I sell a knife, I rarely repurchase it but I did just repurchase a Spyderco Smock that I previously sold for the purpose of comparison w/the original Smock SK23 that I recently acquired.

Around 5 years ago, I sold off about 100 cheap Kershaws & CRKTs that I bought when I 1st started collecting knives.

I haven't repurchased any of those knives but, since then, I have purchased a couple of late model, Japanese themed CRKTs designed by Williams & many vintage Kershaws, which are more in line with the current focus of my collection for those brands.

I also haven't sold a knife since then but I recently traded one for another.

As a result, the size of my knife collection seldom drops but just continues to grow. 🤷‍♂️

I usually gift SAKs, occasionally a Gerber or cheap gas station knife. I have never sold a knife though. I will continue to buy SAKs.

Buck and a few Leatherman.
