Which Busse grips have the most grip?

Busse handle materials in order of personal preference, after using them all, for comfort:
Res-c
Snake (seems like the layers are part linen & part canvas)
Linen
G10
Canvas
Paper

For grippiness:
Linen
Snake
G10
Canvas
Res-c
Paper

For looks:
multicolor G10 (blue, orange, sandstorm, tequila)
Snake
Linen
Canvas
Paper
Res-c

Now I know why I only have 2 paper handled blades. :p

Tim, your reply seems to go against the grain of Canvas being the grippiest.

I wish someone lived close to me so I could feel these things before I decide. I think it's going to come down to trusting yall combined with with whatever the person on the other end of the phone at Busse suggests.

Thanks

I think you are pretty near a bunch of people, including Jaxx. I'm planning to drop by his place later, too... just need to find some time.

Keep in mind that the canvas handles, being Micarta, can have a pretty wide range of grippiness levels depending on how finely sanded and polished it is. Still, because it's canvas and not some harder material, it can get fuzzy from sanding. The canvas Micarta on CG BOSS Jacks is left pretty rough and has a good deal of grippiness, though I only have one and don't know if it was a fluke or not. Another machined canvas Micarta knife of mine from Busse, the area adjacent to the steel is really, really slick.

There's also the difference between grippy and tacky. Canvas is grippy because of the texture (meaning, like I said, it can also be pretty slick if it's not texturized roughly). G10 feels kind of tacky because of the material, not the texture.

I asked in another thread about location and got no bites at all, even through PM's. I do have tomorrow off so I could get to anywhere within 15-30min. which for me would be Easton to Hamburg radius-wise.

As far as grips..I just want whatever will let me work in wet/dry/gloved/sweaty conditions and not cause me to slice my own hand open, get blisters, or slide all around in my hand.

This is why I wish I could feel them to get an idea of what I'd be dealing with.

Thanks

I was thinking about that Busse-appearing-at-the-Easton-knife-show thread :) you're near there, a lot of people are near there... I'm hoping it will happen but things aren't looking good.

For a change of pace, let me stop being objective and just give you my personal preference: I could do either canvas Micarta or roughly sanded G10, so from there it's just aesthetics.

I see in your sig. that you actually have one of these knives and it looks like you picked the canvas. Right? Hell, I'd buy yours except you don't have a choil which I want (this being a utility knife and all).

Yeah, no one seems to be in the Lehigh Valley area that is willing to let me have a look. At least not yet.

Thanks

Against the grain... Yup, kinda the story of my life. LOL

I came to that conclusion by comparing fusion & special forces handled blades with each type of material, other than res-c of course, with factory machined grips. They were not all the same blade type, or same handle thickness, but it was about as fair as I could get it. Different handle patterns and hand sizes may also yield slightly different results, so it really is all subjective.

I do know that you can sand any of the non res-c materials to be really slippery or very textured depending on what grit you use and that can make a big difference on the hand shaped handles, so you really aren't "stuck" with just one feel. Knowing that makes it easier to say, just get the material you like the looks of best and don't sweat it, it will do the job fine. ;)

Before I found Busse/kin, I had bought several CS knives including 2 Master Hunter's and a SRK in Carbon V. I got the Master Hunter's for skinning however, had read several review's over the net and was surprised that many tester's claimed the Kraton became very slippery when it got blood on it. I sold all of them after finding Busse/kin and never had the chance to find out for myself. Since then, I have used the RMD, Batac, and HRLM for skinning and have not had a issue with them being slippery. Have you done any skinning with the Kraton handles and if so, what was your experience? I did like the feel of the Kraton handles and liked the design of the CS Master Hunter.
