I knew that... so why didn't I type that:confused:

I think since I have got the knives from Blade West I have had "SH" on the brain.

Thanks for noticing that mistake I fixed the post.

I am new to this forum and have noticed that Busse knives have almost a cult status. I Just won a Swamp Rat Crash axe on ebay and I am very impressed with it. I now possess three Randall's. A Model 12 Sportsman's Bowie 9 inch (circa 1967), a model 14 about 7 inches with border patrol handle (circa 1980) and a Model 1, 5 1/2 inch for outdoor use. The first two have been carried and well used while I was in the Military. I would be interested in obtaining a Busse or Swamp Rat to replace each of these. I know that a BM would be comparable to the Model 12. I would like a combat/field knife about 7 inches long and a utility knife between 3 and 4 inches long for outdoor activities. Can you give me any suggestions? What is the difference in the steel and manufacture of a Busse vs. a Swamp Rat? Are they better than my Randall's? (I probably will start a flame war over that question) I realize that there is a lot of questions here, but thats how you learn. Thanks for you patience and I am looking forward to your replys.

Hmmmm, let's see...

A lot of folks prefer the Meaner for the smaller range, but I am an Active Duty fan through and through. As for the 7 inch... well... do you like a recurve blade or not? The SOW variant, or the SH1 might be in the neighborhood of the larger sized knife that you are asking about... Or also the Fusion Steel Heart. A lot has to do with personal choice and how it "fits" you...

LEFT to RIGHT... Although these are a set (Special Edition 2007), most can be found in other combinations that may be more to your liking...

*Fusion Battle Mistress
*Argonne Assault
*Heavy Ordinance Grade Fusion Steel Heart
*"SOW"... Originally offered in Satin and Red G-10 and called (LOL) Santa's Outlaw Wicked (variant of the Special Forces Natural Outlaw "SFNO", not in pic.)
*(Anniversary) Steel Heart 1
*Heavy Ordinance Badger Attack TAC
*Meaner Street
*Active Duty
*"Fatty" Game Warden
Horizontal underneath is another Game Warden

Believe it or not, there are many, MANY more different styles of Busse knives than just these 9... I recommend trying to find a Busse knife owner who will let you handle a few so that you can find the one (or 2, or... ahem, 20, LOL) that feels right to you. Many here believe in the KNIFE, not the hype, and some may even offer to help you in this way, should you be interested... We "LOVE" converting "non-believers"! LOL ;) :D:D

Happy Hunting!

CGFBM...Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress

FSH...Fusion Steel Heart

MrS....Meaner Street

Those 3 won't let you down and I can't imagine them not covering all your needs.

One thing about the above knives...it's going to cost you about 1200.00 for all three, if you can find a FSH for sale.

So you may want to go with some Rats:

Rat Daddy

Mini Uncle Mojo

Rat Hunter or similar

If you can find all of them ( Rat Hunter may be tough) they'll run about 800.00, approx.

Or if you are on a real budget, you can try Scrap Yard:

Dog Father

Yard Guard

Dumpster Mutt or Scrapper 6

These might be a little hard to find right now...or not, haven't checked lately, but they'll run you around 600.00, approx.

Hope this helps.
