which Busse would you choose?

Thanks! Brown made this for me back in 2002, or 2003.

Thanks Matteo. Never been a huge kydex fan but, that rig has me rethinking my position on it for sure...LOL One more questions for you. Do you mind if I ask why you have the SH and AD facing opposite directions?

How about this NO recurve?

That's a very nice recurved NO. Is it a one of a kind?

These questions always make me wonder a bit...
.
It stimulates a conversation among knife nuts, sure. However, don't mean to be quarellsome, but the fundamental premise seems most unsound.
If you can pick any darn knife you want, that would pretty well have to mean at least some foreknowlege and a fair amount of choice of kit (as the Brits say). Given that, why in God's name would I take only one!
.
(A great many of us already know this, of course (or more or less agree, however you wish to put it) but I'm a bit concerned that novices will come to this board to learn about such stuff and be mislead if we don't spell it out.)
.
In my opinion, there is no such thing as the HOLY GRAIL ONE PERFECT KNIFE. Not even your favorite Busse. Bare minimum should be 2, large & small, if travelling light. I prefer at least 3, like Kephart and many others. Though I don't always choose the same items he did, they tend to be similar in function and number.
.
Having got all that off my chest, I'll play along... my trusty Basic 9. Among other virtues, I love the comfy handle, and if I only took one, I'd go big rather than small or medium. (I can always make some small blades through "beer bottle knapping".)
.
In reality, of course, if I get to choose my kit I'll supplement the Basic 9 with my ABA & folding-plier-gadget-cluster.

Maybe a Busse/Nessmuk trio is what we need. Now there would be an interesting set if matched. But, I have to agree with Ed to some degree. One is certainly not enough.
Not trying to divert the original question, so maybe a new thread is in order.

Yeah new thread, the ONE rig you would carry. By rig it has to be either a piggy back sheath or sheath with pouch. I would bring my Hell Razor and the pouch would have my Strider AR in Ranger Green :D

Do you mind if I ask why you have the SH and AD facing opposite directions?

Not at all. I wanted the AD reverse draw for two reasons:

-If I needed a blade out in the woods quickly, I could simply pull the AD out reverse grip in a forward motion, and be ready to go.

-Keeping the edge down, if I turned it around it would be too far back to pull out comfortably, right hand carry.

I've never thought of that in a piggy-back style. Great idea.

Regular draw on the small knife in a slanted position always put the butt of the knife jammimg into any seat when I sat down -- so I always kept the smaller blade straight up and down.

This reverse draw is looking good to me -- now off to play with some new configurations... :D

I've got about ten different Busse model users and IMRHO, the single most useful field blade for me by a fair margin is a HR (or Mudrazor- but the HR does cut sticky cheese better :D ). I have both magnum and standard scales, and even though my hands are kinda large, I prefer the standard grip. More compact, lies closer to my body in my Mtn. Mike sheath, and I've gotten to like the smaller flatter grip.

This isn't the question, but if I could have 2: HD or AD and BM-E.

Busse Basic 3.

Small knife but big on performance, if I could only have one knife, this would be it.

I use this knife more than all the others and it has done everything
that I have asked of it.
The coating is wore off and I put a V-edge on it.
The most comfortable handle I have ever held.
It cuts and whittles just fine and I can beat it through wood without
worrying about it breaking.
I'd buy another if I could find one.

(would be nice to have a bigger knife alongside it tho'):)

which Busse would you choose if you were going to be dropped in the middle of no where?

Am I going to stay there for a while and get picked up or do I have to get out on my own? I have done both and the knife I’d want to have with me would be different.

I have been dropped in a remote spot for seven days to fish and then been picked up at the end of the week. In that case I’d take a larger knife because I don’t have to move much.

I have also been dropped off at a trail head and then backpacked point to point over a period of time. If I’m moving like this I’m not considering packing a big heavy knife.

I’m not going to mention models. If you are backpacking and are 6’4” 220 and fit you can take all the dam knives you want. If you are 50 lbs over weight or a small person you had better think more about it.
