Which Busse?

Getting on board with Idahoskunk, if I could keep only one of my Busse's it would be my 1/4" CG Satin Jack. :)

Thanks everyone so far!

Ok, so after some thought, I'm leaning towards the Satin Jack. But... how does the combination of GrooveMaster AND the Assault Shaker sound?

That sounds like a great combo to me. The GM is a knife that truly needs to be held and used to love. Once you get one in your hand you will fall in love with it. There are so many options as far as the grip goes and you really can't go wrong with that size of a blade. With the AS in combo it will cover a large portion of anyone's knife needs. :D:D

Keep us updated on your decision. :D

Get a Battle Mistress. If you think you'll ever use it to hack an unsavory human out in the wilds, you'll be happy you have a 9.5" blade. I wear mine on my web belt, hanging off my right butt behind my .45, and it is really a very comfortable carry. If you're out hiking around, you don't even know it's there. At first I thought it might be a little big, but it's really not. The other night I heard something outside my sliding glass door. I didn't have the chance to get to my gun (like an idiot), but I had my Battle Mistress and my Dwyer D-9 (which has a 7.5" blade) right next to me. I grabbed the Battle Mistress. When the SHTF the 9.5" blade is a big boost to your confidence. With one chop you can disable your adversary. Bill Bagwell is fairly vociferous about the magic that appears in blades of 9" or bigger, and I think he's right. Bigger is better.

Thanks AD for the info on the BM!

I do have a 15" Khukri from HI for the "bumps in the night"

Having recently renewed my interest in big fixed blades, I soon discovered I had to have a Busse, based on the near manic enthusiasm for the knives expressed here and elsewhere.

I settled on a new Steel Heart IIE, and I was not disappointed. It is truly a serious piece of steel, not for the fainthearted or unsteady. Not exactly a fighter, although it would likely do well in a pinch, it's a hard use fixed blade equal to any task you might need a large knife to perform.

Being impressed, I spent some time looking for a smaller partner for the SH, and settled on the Satin Jack CG. Straight handle, lighter weight, and gorgeous design elements make the SJ IMO the perfect companion for the SH, to round out my small - but growing - collection of Busse's.

Those two knives to me represent the essence of what makes these knives The S*it.

The one Busse I really want is...not available. I would really, really like to have a 3/16" thick 6" or 6.5" Groove Master!! (Groove Master Extreme?)
That would give me the multitude of grip positions and the size I want. In an older thread I mentioned that I found a Busse Basic 5 at my local gun/knife shop and I'm not sure I want something smaller than that. 1WB has a NO for sale that seems interesting but...

(Hmmm...If I stopped buying Spydie's I'd have more $$ for Busses) :) :p :D

Sharpbits, at that length your best bet may be with a Satin Jack.
You'll be surprised at how ergonomic the blade feels with only the finger choil.

(or maybe Jerry could carve some spinal grooves into a SJ just like the GM has;);)

A lot of good suggestions in this thread :D:D

Now the hard part, choosing ;)

xsrdx,
Welcome to the Busse Forum, glad you stopped by :D:D

Seems like noone wants to tell you.................

There is no such thing as affording only one Busse knife. Once you have the first one more are soon to follow. Believe it!;)

The SJ is a very good choice for a first knife. Mine is combat grade. Very good stuff for what most want in a camp or utility knife. Can't go wrong with the SJ.

Just be aware that having ANY Busse WILL make you want/need more.

I predict the other knives you have will go to the auction block as the INFI works its magic on you---mine did, except for the antique Case that was my grandfather's...............

I'm having the same problem. Would anybody say the satin jack is a good all around outdoor/survival knife? Or should I take a look at the steel heart E?
