Which Chopper to Buy ?

By the way, how do you convex a hollow grind?

Like a straight razor! Lay both the edge and the plunge line on the belt sander. Did that yesterday with a CS True Flight and it cuts like a whole-steel Mora now. :D

MY TWO CENTS: I know you said under $100. BUT, I would give due consideration to throwing in an extra $30 and picking up the ESEE Junglas w/o the sheath, which is the going price at knifecenter dot com. That's a serious chopper/survival knife that is basically indestructible, and has an iron-clad warranty. I don't own one but everything I've heard about them is pretty solid.

The Sp50 is a flat grind .

HI has some knives on sale for year end. I picked up an approx 7.5 inch bladed one for 65 plus shipping.

The BK9 is a beast. It will take anything you throw at it, and its a great made in the USA value.

ColdSteel Gurkha kukri,
Just above 100 dolls, but the best chopper i've used so far, such a great balance, the kukri feel super light (even with the THICK blade) .
Extremely strong too, that would be the one i take if i had to have only one !

for a way cheaper option, the kabar kukri around 50 box
But the handle is really too bulky and the balance isn't as good wich makes the knife feel heavier even with a thiner blade! (still an awesome looking blade)

hope it helps, i know they are also "tactical" blades, but for wood work it's one of the nicest shape i think, goes thru logs like nothing :)

Already mentioned, but I'll second these two; Browning Crowell/Barker, and the Ontario RD-9.
