I'm using the black just now and I really like it.
But I have some khaki bags round and about that I can't even put on for a couple of months so I have no reference point.
That's why I'm asking you all.

What I'd like to know are the good/bad points of both colors.

I think Khaki would be good to see the internal contents better.
But does it soil easily and look poorly?
Any other views?
PLEASE
Tom

Black. Any other color makes it a purse.

I dunno. I think if you look at the purses women are carrying you will see black more often than army green.

I guess all of the colors in the Fatboy line are fine. Let's just hope they don't start making them in pink, purple, or baby blue!

Camel/Tan/Khaki - Lighter color would probably make it get hot inside slower. You could write witty sayings on it with a Sharpie. Personally IMHO, it causes me to think of 'The Gap' type bags.

Woodland/Desert Camo- See State Militia issues in 'Bowling for Columbine' for why you don't want to wear camo in a non-aggressive environment.

Green - I'd consider it. I tend to wear earth tones so it goes with most of my ensemble. Might show dirt a bit more than black.

Black - Neutral. Goes with everything. Non-descript and shadowy. Does not show dirt nor blood well. Goes with combat boots and black Hummers.

...mine's black, I wouldn't choose any other color...well maybe green if I had to.

Just got mine in Black. The only other color I would have is O.D. Green. I used to carry around a gas mask sack with a shoulder sling in O.D. and never had any problems with it ( the color that is). The tan start to look a little too "man-purse" for me (hope I didn't offend anyone with an tan FatBoy). The woodland/dessert camo patterns are a little to combat zone-ish for me.

I gotta quit reading these posts. Now I want a fatboy. My normal non work attire is a t-shirt or golf shirt with khakis, jeans, or shorts. I'll get laughed out of town if I start toting all my stuff on me.

...so who has 'em on sale?

I like the Fatboy, and the idea of carrying one with all of your stuff in it sounds appealing, but I have to ask. Don't you feel kind of 'dorky' carying one? Do you get odd stares from people? I'm not one to really care what others think, but I'm just not too sure. Also, I can't think of what I'd carry in one, other than maybe my firearm, my multi tool and Suefire. I like to carry my wallet in my back pocket, and my cellphone on my side. (I have my cell on vibrate, as I work in a noisy environment, and can't hear it ring. besides, it's less conspicuous as well.)

I aquired a Maxpedition M-5 waistpack earlier in the week, and it fits my firearm, multi tool, Surefire, and an extra blade just fine. I have yet to carry it on my belt. I'm not sold on packing this thing around yet either.

Any comments?

Like I said, I like the idea, but I'm not sure. Help convince me.

Thanks!

It would seem to me that you like your carry methods now..
The Fatboy would be too big/bulky
plus it's hard to change the way we carry stuff.
I have my wallet, native s30, bandana, lighter, money on clip, glasses, sunglasses, pen, keys, canon a80, VIP light, phone, keys.
This is my usual edc and I wear shorts, no pockets due to injury. So everything is one handed for a few months.

When I'm two handed I'll add my pda, psk and Wave to list

I don't like to carry a pack on my belt. Fatboy has sooo much flexibility in carry positions.
pants fall down..tho I wear suspenders.
Tom
ps,,betcha get a Fatboy anyway.
hahaha

I ended up with OD by default, as it was what I could get quickly at the time. Honestly, I'd have preferred a non-uniform, non-military colors, more like the choices in backpacks. I don't get paid to be tactical any more, so I don't try and look it.

As for it being a purse, no matter what color it is, or how much you try and macho it up, it's a purse. So much so that my wife bought one in khaki and feminized it a bit.

As for feeling dorky, no I do not. The most common thing my wife and I hear, from men and women alike is, "Where can I get one?"

i have a khaki one and i love it. thought about the black but it would get too hot, and i only need the fatboy during the summer. and not to sound too gay, the OD green wouldn't match a lot of my clothes. i don't walk around in public with it too often, its mainly to transport my stuff between home, work, and school, so its usually in the car or in the office. all my friends who have seen it make fun of it/me at first, but they eventually admit its kinda cool and ask where i got it. i'll admit its a purse, but i'm comfortable with that. though i'm too self conscious to take it around town on weekends when i go out, and now i hate the feeling of having stuff in my pockets.

I'm getting a tan one - as soon as TAD has them back in stock! :(

This whole discussion about which is the "right" color reminds me of that old saying (you might be too young to remember this one, kids!): "Real men don't eat quiche!"

My answer then, and now: "REAL men eat whatever the F**K they WANT to eat!" :D

Bah! I checked them all out. Black looks more like a purse. OD Green looks less like a purse ... at least to my eyes. I have OD.

I got the OD green. All the other colors (even the black), seem like they'd stand out more. I don't wear anything that stands out. Just never cared for anything "loud". I like the military look, and everyone agrees that my purse-yes, I just go ahead and call it my purse to nip any jokes in the bud- is not feminine looking at all.
I really like the looks of the khaki, and the desert camo, best, but figured it would show stains easily, plus OD just "fits" me.

Black for me - similar reasons as stated above - Khaki would have been a decent choice, but almost appears too "Abercrombie & Fitch" (however you spell it.) Green would have been decent but would clash with my eyes :) and black matches everything.

LOL! :D

Whadda ya say, boys - next thread we start showing off our pearl necklaces?

;)

I picked one up last weekend in Green, not that they had any others for me to choose from....

I would have taken green or black, the other colors didnt appeal to me, camo is a no-no and the desert tan I thought would look dirty far too quickly.

I am just trying to build up/trim down what I am going to carry in it, and if it will replace my backpack or not.

As for being dorky, I think they are much better than a fanny pack. When I think of fanny packs I think of a recent trip I took to Disney World. I saw a guy with a fanny pack wearing black socks and sandals with the flipdown shades (for those of you who know of Lewis Grizzard, I think I found that "Florida tourist" he was talk'n about). I haven't caught any flack for wearing mine. That may be because all my friends know that the reason I have a Fatboy in the first place is for concealed carry purposes and I didn't really have any more options due to the fact that i carry a Glock 21. The Damn thing sticks out any other way I've tried to carry it other than a shoulder holster and during the summer it is hard to wear a jacket to conceal it all the time. The only other real option I had was to get one of those vests for concealed carry but I don't see any other 22 year olds wearing them so they couldn't be very attractive to the women.

Well, for feeling "dorky": No. For getting stares, I get that anyway, walking around in my Utilikilt. And you're right, I don't much care what others think. That's why I have always done my own thing.

I also carry a collapsible water bottle from Platypus, a book, space blanket, lighter (I don't smoke) and other assorted items as I see fit for any given situation.

The Fatboy is just too cool. BTW: mine's black. Will probably get a khaki one soon, as soon as I can get a dealer friend of mine to get on the ball and get some. Then there's the desert camo thermite. Nice, but kinda small. Ideal for the light outings. But it doesn't hold the HK45 compact as well. The Glock 27 OK, but that pocket is pretty deep.
