Hello folks with Spyderco in mind!

This is my very first post in BF.
Here is really a wonderful place to spend time with.

As getting more and more interests with Spyderco,
i have some questions with the two classics : Police and Military
It's definitely no doubt with both are worth to get.
But which combo set is recommand in your option?

1. Military plain edge + Police plain edge
2. Military serrate edge + Police serrate edge
3. Military plain edge + Police serrate edge
4. Military serrate edge + Police plain edge

Your inputs are appreciated.

I really only like plain. Plain can do everything serrated can, but serrated can't do everything plain can. That is mainly a clean cut. A SE might cut through rope and fibrous material faster, but a PE can still do that. The PE is the only one that can do an efficient, clean cut, though. That's just my opinion.

If you're set only on a Military and a Police, my personal choice would be #3. The Military is definitely a slicer, and a slicer works better as a fully flat ground plain edge. I prefer a hollow grind on a fully serrated knife because the chisel ground serrations will always favor one direction, and while a hollow grind can reduce slicing on a PR knife, hollow grinds with a SE like on the Police will help center the cut.

Plus, a fully serrated Police (stainless handles) is one of the sexiest knives ever made.

My personal combination is a SE Rescue93/SE Atlantic Salt, or a PE Tasman Salt with a PE main folder (many that I choose from). I prefer the forward, straight edge of the Rescue design with a SE than a curved one, as I find that I can rip through things quicker than I can saw through them. I carried a SE Tasman Salt for a long while, but found that it bound easily towards the tip. I bought a PE Tasman, and stick with this as my secondary knife 90% of the time, although I switch back to the SE Rescue93/Atlantic Salt now and then. I would really like a Mariner though, but it's a few knives down on the list.

Depends on what you want them for. If just for a collection, as examples of classic Spyderco models, then PE for the Military and SE for the Police since those are the most "iconic". For use, I'm with THG, I carry only PE and find little use for serrated folders.

My choice for that combo is PE in both Military and Police. Better yet to me a better combo is D2 Para Military and PE 30V Military.

Thanks for all the kindly inputs above.

I would like to set this combo as EDC.
( Not for the collection purpose, because there will be much more than two models to collect with...:D )

And since it's a combo set, both will be carried at the same time,
I would like to pick up one plain and one serrate.
Different folder for different usage.
( Seems lots of your choices go for both plain, but I just can't resist the "SpyderEdge":p )

Till now,
seems the No.3 combo set( Milli-P + Police-S ) is a welcome and reasonale choice...

Haha. I had that exact combo on my at work last night along with a Kershaw Skyline. GMTA

Definitely PE on the Military, that's a slicer and slicers need PE. With the Police, I'd go for a combo edge. That long blade gives you plenty of room for very useful SE and PE portions. Over the past summer, I have become aware of the great usefulness of a long combo edge blade for general utility uses. My CE Endura ZDP has hardly left my pocket all summer. I still use the PE portion more, and rarely carry a full SE knife, but when I'm working on the farm, fishing, etc., that bit of SE definitely has its uses.

Not thinking of a combo edge...
Because i would carry this combo set at the same time,
i just want the plain edge and serrate edge both as large as they can,
to get the most usage(edge) of each type.
And Police & Military are both "large with thin profile",
fits my request quite well...

I've been carrying My FG D2 Milli (PE) and an SE Police 3 (along with a few others ;)) lately, and it's a really nice combo. If I had to choose only 2, they'd be the ones.

Sounds like you're pretty set on a PE Military and SE Police :) That would be my selection too based on your needs.

My personal preference is PE, but that is not a hard and fast rule. I have plenty of SE Spydercos as well. Right now I'm carrying a PE Endura and a SE Tasman Salt.

I don't agree that a PE can do everything an SE can. A PE edge can lose its 'grip' on really slick cutting surfaces (I've seen it happen on synthetic rope). Plus hitting a metal object while cutting can completely take that sharp edge of the PE, not so with SE. Keep your SE shaving sharp and you'll see the benefits. That's why I always carry an SE and PE edge on me. My recommendation is the PE on a flat grind edge (Millie) and the SE on a hollow ground edge (Police).
