Which cowboy boots?

the best wearing boots i ever had were tony lama water buff IIRC, hard to break in but wore them for about 2 yrs, and that was back when i rode horses daily, stirrups are tough on boots.

then most comfy pair were also tony's, but cant remember the leather used

so i guess my vote goes to tony lamas, FWIW

I started with Ariat, followed by Justin, Tony, Lucchese and then finally customs....

I find that my pair of Paul Bond shark skin with 2" heels the toughest and most comfortable!

My vote also has to go to Tony Lama.

I used to wear Acme 'Rough-Outs' almost exclusively, that is, until I bought my Mustang. The clutch and brake pedal were both very small and close together. More than once I 'stepped on both,' usually when trying to make quick stops.

I shop at The Shoe Box in Black Earth, Wisconsin, and they sell factory seconds, except I dare you to find the flaw. I found a pair of 400 dollar Tony Lama's for about 180 bucks, and bcause they were narrow, I bought them.

They were narrow enough to help when shifting, and yet felt very comfortable. I bought them in 1989 with the car, and I still have them. The heels and soles are fine.

My Tony Lama bullhide super ropers have been great, really comfortable and very durable.

However, I have a pair of basic brown distressed leather Justin ropers that are also comfortable and are a nice compromise when you don't necessarily want a boot that attracts a lot of attention, similar to Wellingtons or the like.

Havent ever picked up a pair of pull on boots...

Probably should... the cold weather solution for not liking to tie stuff :D

I like Justins. I average 3-4 years per pair with their crepe soled ropers. Wear them for everyday stuff for about 2 years then move them down the line for work/riding my horses. Usually wear the soles down to the point the welt starts to come loose, and then I get new ones. Thats about the time my stirrups are wearing through the side of the boot anyhow.
I almost bought a pair of Anderson Beans last time, but they didn't have them in the right width. They were made with heavier leather with very good workmanship. I really wanted to get them but they were going to be too loose once they started to break in, and were about $30 more than the Justins which are equally good.

Favorites? ANY one of the many customs I had made by Gary Tucker who used to have a small shop in Las Vegas. They fit so well I could put them on at 7am in the morning and forget I was even wearing boots by the time 9pm rolled around. For off-the-rack boots, I'd vote for Tony Lama or Lucchese.

Chippewa makes a WELLINGTON model that I bought last year. They are built like a tank and fit like a glove. One of the best boots I've ever bought.

I have an old pair of Frye boots- had 'em forever- forgot about them actually- they were in a box when I moved overseas in '91 & just pulled them out. Very comfortable.

JUSTIN!! I have several sets of Justin boots and they are all very comfortable and durable. I'm pretty hard on my boots! Here is my line up:

5 pair of laceup Justin Work Boots(2 have the pit stop finish, and are tough)
1 pair of Justin pull on Work Boots
1 pair of Justin full quill ostrich
2 pair of Justin Chukka boots

A couple of other sets that are worth mentioning:

1 pair of Wolverine Dura Shok pull on work boots
1 pair of Double H bull hide cowboy boots

Nocona and Justin always served me well when I lived in Oklahoma. My feet were pretty narrow and both brands fit me better then most of the others. I did ocassionally get a pair of Tony Lama dress boots.

Now, I take such a big stride, the heels won't last on ashphalt and concrete and, they are pretty hard on my feet and ankles.

Lowa fit me real good but, they aren't western boots ;)

At the bottom of most of the said manufacturer's pages... they have a berkshire logo... guess they are all owned by the same person?

Just bought a pair of Justin deer skins. Very comfortable. No break-in needed other than scuffing up the bottoms a little so they don't slip on smooth floors.

My Tony Llamas aren't near as comfortable.

Guyon
Thats what my latest pair is, Black Doe skin-techno crepe soles. Most comfortable boots I've ever worn right out of the box. I was a little hesistant about the new type of crepe soles, but I've been wearing these daily since septemeber walking on a lot of blacktop and there's hardly any wear :)

Red Wing makes a great pull-on boot, great leather and comfort. Just watch out, they are now making cheaper lines.

Just curious, but whats the appeal and purpose of cowboy boots? I have a pair of Justin python skin boots that I was given about 8 years ago. I've worn them a couple times to special occasions for a change in pace, but I would never think about wearing them all day or to anything normal. They just aren't very comfortable. Next to no traction. And LOUD.

As far as comfort you either have the wrong boots, haven't worn them long enough to break them in, or don't wear them often enough to get used to them. A couple times to special occasions isn't enough.;)

As for traction, "we don't need no stinkin traction".:p

And LOUD, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!?:D
