So keeping it just to CPK, what is “realistically” your favorite to regularly carry with you? EDC seems logical but I just have a sneaking suspicion that the DEK’s are going to rate high.
If it's during work hours I carry a large-ish folder (3.5 - 4inch blade). That's as much as I can get away with.
Outside of work, in everyday scenarios, I carry the DEK1. The FK2 is great, but the extra handle makes it more noticeable and I feel like I don't have as many options for carrying it. For me, it doesn't do anything that the DEK1 doesn't. I haven't finished the sheath for my reaper yet, but when that's done (assuming I don't screw it up) I have the sneaking suspicion that I may start carrying it in place of the DEK1. Who knows?
If I could always do as I please without negative consequences, I'd prefer to carry my sig SDFK all the time. The added weight and size don't bother me. Anything I do with a small knife, I can do with a large one. The opposite isn't always true. This is purely out of convenience. I wouldn't carry it because I'm thinking tactically or because I'm concerned about zombies, EOTW, survival situations, etc. It's just convenience based. If I have that on my belt, there isn't a scenario I'll realistically encounter that requires me to grab a larger (or different) knife.
Personally, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about being able to grab a DEK1. It's a great knife and there are quite a few out there. I'm sure you'll have another chance. Now the EDC knives? Count yourself lucky. They're harder to come by and I'm sure you're going to love it. The only "downside" (I'm using that term loosely here) that I've ever read on the forums is related to the blade size. Doesn't seem that will be an issue for you, from what you've said.
One of the nice things about buying a CPK is that you can purchase one to see if you like it with no risk. More than likely, you'll be able to sell it without taking a loss. If you think you might like it, grab it. You can always pass it along if you don't.
