Which dealers have checked a blade for you before shipping?

I ordered two FFG Delicas and a Michael Walker from one of the recommended dealers on this forum, one that I have used twice before.

I asked that he check the blades before shipping and explained that I was particularly concerned about some reports of issues with the scales and screw holes of the MW.

Instead, I got an e-mail saying that their insurance "prohibits" opening knives at the "warehouse."

Yes, I know about the Spyderco warranty....but my intent was to avoid any problems.

Made me wonder if he is drop shipping from the factory or a wholesaler (does Spydie sell through wholesalers?)

At any rate, which dealers will inspect a blade for the buyer upon request?

I have not purchased from them before but I think I read here that they check the knives before they send them out. You can ask.

Thanks.
Has anyone actually done business with a dealer who, upon request, will check a blade before shipment?

There is a dealer that does exactly this with every blade he ships, but sadly, I cannot remember his website or full name. I only recall that his name is Tom. Maybe someone else can chime in with more information?

Tom Berry inspects the knives before he ships - one of several reasons to go with Tom. spydercoVT.com

I've asked Roger at Knifeworks.com to inspect before shipping a few times. He did it no problem.

Thanks.

Yes. As previoously mentioned NewGraham.com does this. You really should call and ask for this with any dealer. Some others:
Warriors and Wonders - Email or call and give them your order number. (Jay)
Knifecenter.com - Email or call and give them your order number.
Grand Prarie Knives - Email or call and give them your order number. (Jamie)
NotYourMamasKnives - Email or call and give them your order number. (Jake)
Knifeworks.com - Email or call and give them your order number. (Roger)

New graham did it for me when I asked. She pulled one, didn't like it, pulled another and described the two over the phone. I took her choice and was happy.

Knifeworks will do it for knives in stock. I have also had Cumberland do it.

RevDevil,

I agree -- ALL of us should do this all the time.

To those who have: Do you make your requests by phone, or have you had any success via e-mail?

It probably is done at the time of ordering. It makes the most sense to place the order and include the request.

Yes. Do you order online -- or by phone?

In other words, must you order by phone to get the dealer to check the goods before shipping?

Not necessarily. You can enter your request in the section most dealers have on their checkout page, usually called "Special Instructions/Requests/Comments" about your order.

I requested New Graham pick a Digi Para that had a darker coloration/pattern and centered blade when I ordered mine and I got just that. I even got one with the collector #.
