Which do you prefer, brass or nickel silver bolsters?

I still haven't decided between the 112 or 110, but what kind of bolsters do you prefer? Is one stronger than the other and I guess the brass will require more maintenance right? Not sure which way to go, and I might end up getting both the 112 and 110.

I like Nickel Silver more :)
I just like the appearance more, and easier to keep shiny.
Plus it is supposedly more wear resistant.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been researching the brass or nickel silver options, and I just wanted to get more opinions. That's what I've been hearing is the nickel is less maintenance but also a little stronger. What kind of blade option do you like on 110? s30v or 420hc?

I only have one 110, and it is 420HC
I have a couple other Bucks in S30V though, and it is awesome steel.
I like 420HC a lot too, and is way easier to sharpen.
The edge lasts longer on the S30V but takes a little more effort to sharpen.

So it depends on what you prefer in a blade.
Ease of sharpening vs longer lasting edge.

It depends a bit on the handle material and what you are using the knife for but I prefer nickel on most however brass looks better with certain handle materials. As far as blade steel S30V but I agree with DesertChris that 420HC is easier to sharpen.

I Love the NS and have decided never to buy a Knife with Brass on it. I just hate the way it looks. I love my 110's with NS, they are the bomb.

I was leaning towards the 420HC which I have on my 501. I'm happy with it.
What kind of scales look better with brass or nickel? Would you say brass looks better with the woods? What about the nickel?

Choosing between nickel silver and brass, is an easy decision. I'd go with nickel because it's stronger and resists some scratching. To me the best frame or bolster material is stainless steel. Like on the Duke. This is very strong and resists scratching better. It polishes, taking a different color than either of these two. DM

I'm going with the nickel on the custom 110 but I think the 112 only comes brass unless I'm wrong.

There are some 112's out there in Nickel Silver, but you may have to hunt for them.

I found one with a terrible blade, and recaled and rebladed the good handle.

Looks great and I like that wood. Desertwood?

Thank you :)
It is Amboyna Burl and the blade is from a 482

Thinking about it more, if I ordered a custom shop 110, I would likely get S30V since it would be just a little more for the upgraded steel.

They are both good steels to me. I have the S30V on my PM2 and it's great. I was thinking if I get both the 112 and 110, the 112 comes with 420HC, but just to be different I would get the s30v on the 110.

I like a 110 with nickel silver, problem is that they are so purdy, I hate to carry it.

This is just back from the spa.It has served me well but the NS is really a better looker.

Buck bolsters are kind of like Mounds and Almond Joy. Sometimes I feel like brass, sometimes I don't. So far my custom shoppe models have all been nickel. If I run across a nickel 110 or 112 I snag them when I can. That being said the older 110 and 112 models just wouldn't be the same in anything else by brass.
