Which do you prefer in a wharnie? #47, #55, #72

RC, I really appreciate the offer, but I think I have a good idea on how it will feel. I'm going to take some time and figure out which path I want to travel, if any at this time. The 72 feels so right, I'd hate to just be getting something new to just sit on the shelf (though that's not always bad).

If your hands are on the large side, the 3.5” #55 may not provide a comfortable grip for you.

Also, the #55 has a very stiff pull (well, at least mine does) and, when closed, much of the blade is tucked inside the handle. Combined with the shorter handle length, these additional factors can make it difficult for someone with large hands to easily/quickly open the blade.

I don’t own and haven’t handled a #47, so no input for you on that one.

Here’s my #55 wharnie compared with its easier-to-open cousin, the #72:

IMO the 72s and 73s are skinning knives and are best with a clip or more preferably a drop point... though a spear works too. I like a wharncliffe on a smaller knife. The 55 would probably be my choice, but I do like the 47.... though maybe the Case Swayback might be what I'd really like in it.

No problem :)
