I am looking for a drop point knife of about 9-10 inches. To BUY that is.

Which is better? And why? What about price, availability? Esp to the UK.

Thanks

Well I think to make it simple the only one of the two with an actual drop point would be the basic. The BM-E has more of a spear point. The basics I believe are the best buy. The performance difference is marginal in the BM's favor. You can find Basic 9's from 150.00 used up to 230.00 new. And you can find BM's new for 350.00 So you can see that the price difference is definately not marginal. But you just can't beat the feeling of power you get when holding a BM. That in itself is priceless. I love them all and any will serve you well. Just a matter of how much you want to spend. And just because the basic is cheaper the BM is well worth the price.

Did you sell your BM already??
Personally, I think that the Basics are more equal to the prices paid. The BM IS a lot of knife but for some folks the Basics will more then do the trick.

muzzleup....i still have the battle mistress with the blade-o-leer that i bought from you and it definitely isnt up for resale!....certainly an awesome combo!...it took awhile as well as an email to grnamin to figure out the "correct" way to use the blade-o-leer....i just answered the general's question privately....i basically had the same answer that ryu provided....the basic line will fill the needs of a majority of people....thanks again for the bm and the blade-o-leer...feverdoc

Battle Mistress. The one, the only. Basics are nice, no doubt, but hey, get a Battle Mistress use it hard for couple hundred years, then give it to some young guy to beat on. Seriously, I have found nothing to compare to it.

Thanks all!

I want the blade to have a more... agressive tip than the Basic 9 series. I have however never seen a BM E. Any chance of a photo? Thanks!

General:

I still think that you would be more pleased with the Basic 9 then the Battle Mistress. The Battle Mistress is just that...A BATTLE BLADE and if you plan on going into a situation where you might have to "battle" your way out then maybe the BM is for you but for all around use not involving nuclear weapons then the Basics give you a lot of blade for the money!

tallpaul....this is the same link grnamin referred me to see.....for me the pics were worth a thousand words each....very cool system but not daily city wear when a cover garment cant be used....feverdoc

the above link is where you can request one to be made for your knife.....there are some options apparently so contact greg namin and discuss the project as the blade o leer is made one at a time customized to your knife.....feverdoc

TALL PAUL;
People probably look at you funny because on you a Battle Mistress looks like a SAK!

On me it looks like someone trying to carry a 16" battle ship gun barrel.

Fevordoc;
It is very easy to wear the Blade-O-Lerr on you back and then cover it with just a vest, sort of like Crocodile Dundee and quite comfortable too.....

Thanks for the help all! I would also like to thank the VP of Busse for taking an interest. I will be getting a BM E soon with a little luck! Failing that the Basic 9 will surfice I have no doubt of that!

Thanks all!

Wise choice, General. I prefer micarta to "rubber" or whatever, any day. If you have the dough, go for the BM line. It's not that I don't think "rubber" handled knives won't last, it's just that I don't particularly care for them aesthetically. Doesn't matter whether it's Busse, Cold Steel, Fallkniven, or whatever. They are generally good grips that you can hang on to and absorb a lot of shock. It's just a personal prejudice of mine.

Yeh! Nice one Hoodoo. The chap who offered to sell the BM E sold it before I could respond... DOH DOH DOH

. I will have to see if I can get one from somewhere else.

I prefered a second hand sale, as I do not want to pay V.A.T. on import. That would add 26% of the price to the purchas. OUCH!

Anyone selling... let me know, I will have the cast in 2 weeks or less.

Thanks all, and thanks Hoodoo for the advice. I appreciate it.
