Which Dragonfly?

Personally I like the G10 with the steel liners. It gives the knife a little more strength. I love this (big) little knife. If you are trying to keep it under a $100 you could also look at the cat. It is another good choice. Clip style is not going to matter since you plan on keeping it in your pack.

I own the G10 and the FRN with ZDP. A knife this size, for my uses as a utility blade for mundane tasks I honestly can't tell the difference between the steels. On bigger blades like the Endura and Stretch, I do prefer the ZDP version where edge holding matters more.

Personally I think its a great steel and doesn't get enough cred. I have a CF / ZDP-189 Stretch and that is one sweet knife! I haven't had corrosion issues with it, even though I live in a high humidity environment where it can rain every day for a week. If there was a ZDP-189 version with G-10 scales I'm sure it would sell like hotcakes.

Is ZDP so superior as to override the corrosion resistance of VG-10?

Its funny you should say that, my feeling is the blade steel is more important on a smaller knife, although I do readily admit to being a total steel whore. :D

This One... The scales on this is some of the best G10 I've seen. Really great texturing and beautiful color. If its something to toss in your bag you cant go wrong with G10 and VG10...

I've got three versions - the old FRN/AUS8, FRN/VG10 and G10/VG10. The occasion determines which I carry. The old AUS8 isn't used much at all anymore. The G10/VG10 Dfly or my CF Chaparral is used for dressier occasions where a small EDC is better. For regular EDC I use either my black FRN Ladybug or the FRN/VG10 D'fly as my small knife since I don't mind beating up these lower cost models.

I must admit, I do prefer a bit of weight in a smaller knife. A heavier knife just feels better in the hand, ..
Do you have Native5. It is tiny to compare with your Manix :)
It is a little over $100 and if you keep your eyes on exchange you will be able to get lightly used around $80. And this is the knife.

Which do you prefer: G10 DFly or CF Chap?

I'm assuming this was directed at me. I like both for different reasons. The Dfly has a slightly thicker blade and I tend to use it for slightly heavier jobs. It just feels a bit more robust. The Chaparral has the deeper carry clip (which I prefer) and thinner blade. It's slightly larger but thinner overall than the Dfly. I think overall as a gentleman's folder I'd give the edge (no pun intended) to the CF Chaparral.

Serrated dragonfly salt for a pure cutting machine. Outside of that I like the heft, feel and finish of the g10 version.

Yeah I wanna eventually pick up a SE Dfly Salt for travel. Right now I use the Ladybug Salt and Salt 1, both plain edge, for travel.

I agree that a zdp189 in g10 would be great. I've heard of people swapping the scales on the zdp189 frn dragonfly with the g10 vg10 dragonfly. That being said VG10 is nothing to be ashamed of.

My grand plan is picking up a G10 Dragonfly and then a Superblue one down the road when it's released. Do a blade swap and then gift the gray handle/VG-10 Dragonfly to someone who needs it. Then, maybe making some cool scales for the knife since it seems like a great one to learn on since it's small and has steel liners. Imagine a Dragonfly 2 with lightning strike CF scales and a Superblue blade or maybe some nice Koa scales? Brings a grin to my face haha!
