Which EDC to get: Native, FFG Delica, other?

I agree. I won't be abusing the knife. I just want something less delicate than ZDP.

I'm not crazy about the very thin blade. I have considered it in the past. Nothing wrong with it, but I don't think I will get that model until I have all my other bases covered already.

I want a Salt I eventually, but that's for a different purpose. The other suggestions have liner locks and use lower grades of steel.

ZDP steel is not delicate, I mean it's not like using an obsidian cuttiong tool. You really need to find a way to see it or use it before saying that it's delicate.
What in your mind constitutes a low grade steel?

A "low" grade? I'd say 440C, 420, AUS4, AUS6...

ETA: I should also list 440A and 440B. I know that a good heat treatment can make a "low grade" steel perform much better, and a really bad heat treatment can turn a wonder steel into crap.

I have a couple Griptilians plus several other Benchmades. They're nice knives but I like Spydies better then any of my Benchmades. I will also recommend a Delica FFG. It is so light you forget that you have it and it is a SUPER sharp slicer. The colors are cool too!. I have a couple of Militarys which I love and a couple Paras. Along with Enduras, Calys, Ladybugs, Dragonflys...well you get the message but what I carry THE MOST and for the money, the best knife you can buy is the dangerous Tenacious!! I carry it more then any other knife. It is the perfect size and is a wicked slicer. Why not spend acouple more bucks more and get both the Delica FFG and a Tenacious? It would be the beguinning of an addictive Spyderco obsession which will led to many, many more!

I mostly edc Benchmades, but I absolutely love the Native. So much so I've bought it more then once. I never warned up the Delica, just wasn't as comfortable in hand as the Native to me.

I have looked at the Tenacious. Let's forget for a second that the liner lock is not something I currently want. What about the steel used? 8CR13MOV?? When they put that many numbers and letters into the name of a steel, my eyes glaze over. Is that a good steel? I know nothing about it. What is it comparable to - AUS8 maybe, or is it better?

I recently bought the Boker Trance as a cheaper carry knife. I like a frame lock, it uses AUS8 steel, and it was cheap ($25). I hope it works out well. It doesn't have to be a master-slicer or hold an edge like VG-10, but if it's just a decent knife, it will be a great value. If you have any thoughts on that knife compared to the Tenacious, let's hear it.

Jpalmer, maybe I need to reconsider my move away from the Native :)

If you don't mind buying used, I recently saw a Delica 4 ZDP Tom Krein Regrind for SUPER cheap. I would definitely go with a Delica 4. If you are looking for new colored ones it might run you a bit more because they are discontinued. Some places have it and rose the prices. The seller on eBay only have purple and green ones left I believe for fairly cheap.
