Which Emerson to choose for EDC.

Hello everyone. I was wanting to purchase a Emerson for EDC but I'm not sure which one to get and was needing some advice. What I'm wanting is a Tanto blade for sure. I was looking at the Bulldog, CQC or the Roadhouse. Also I'm not sure if I should get the serrated blade or just the regular blade. This knife will be used for EDC and self defense if needed. Also I am willing to spend up to $ 300.00 for this purchase. Thank you all for the advice.

Nub, Welcome to the Emerson Forum. If you want a Tanto blade there are several options. The 15 is a great choice, but it is a little large. The Specwar B blade is also a Tanto and is slim in the pocket. Factors to consider are your hand size, where you work. Will your coworkers flip out if you wave out a large 15? The best thing to do is handle as many Emerson's a you can an find out which one feels the best in your hand. As far as serrations go, what will you be cutting daily? If it's rope or fiberous material, then serrations. Keep in mind that serrations last longer, but can take a little more work to sharpen.
I hope that helps.

^^ +1 ^^

I would lean towards a CQC 7 myself. The question I would ask is how big of a blade do you feel comfortable having for a EDC?

For a tanto, I'd say a SOCFK b. It's a 7's blade with a nice ergonomic handle. The CQC 7b is great as well, but the handle is a little more boxy than I like.

For a non tanto, I like my CQC 10. Great blade shape with Goldilocks size. There are many Emersons to consider.

Here's a picture of a Green Handled Specwar B that I'm carrying todayuploadfromtaptalk1407432382069.jpg

I agree that for a non tanto the 10 is a great edc knife.

The Horseman is another great EDC. The ones listed by CarterR, are at good prices.
Nub for your budget of $300 you could buy 2 Emerson's here in the exchange. No need to spend $300, unless you are buying direct from the Emerson website, other than that you can find great deals on here.

If you are interested in a CQC-15 SFS send me a PM, I have one that is brand new in the box I will sell at a great price.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess the blade size doesn't really matter on that except for what is legal in Arkansas. I'm not sure what is legal here. I get conflicting information on that. My hand size is I guess what's considered normal. I am 5'9 190 lbs. On what I would be cutting with it I'm not too sure. I guess whatever comes my way I need to cut. I was just wondering about the serrations for more along the line of self defense if they are needed or not. Also I can't find anyone in my local area in Arkansas that carry any of these knives that I can handle. I may have to branch out further to find a dealer that I can check them out at.

The socfk I have for sale would make a really good edc, in fact I want to carry it right now but I need the money from it lol

You're right on about the Specwar being good. I love my Commanders too but this thing has seen alot of carrying time since I've gotten it.

I am in the same boat, at work I am a probation officer and right now I carry various knives while making field visits (don't carry guns in my county, so my knife is my companion), I am considering the cqc7a, I like spear points. I was given a cqc 7 benchmade/Emerson by a friend a few years ago and I like it but want an updated model. However after the original poster mentioned that Bulldog I am liking that. For non defensive purposes been thinking of the edc-2, anybody got any experience with that?

Just did a little research and it looks like Arkansas doesn't have a length restriction on blades so I guess that makes my choice even harder now. I still want the Tanto style blade only though. :D

If you want a chisel style tanto, SOCFK is a great choice with some great ergonomics. Something with a V-grind, Lycosa's suggestion is a sound choice available in a few sizes. I like the ETAK-B or the Zealot for Emerson tanto's due to the curved cutting edges like traditional japanese blades.
