Hey yall, this is my 1st post here, altho ive been skulkin around readin posts 4 as a guest & as a member 4 a little bit. Im torn as to what ESEE knife i need(want) next. I got an izula (w/micarta slabs) a month or so ago, & love it! Its just amazing & i take it everywhere. The Quality is just amazing, not to mention the price & waranty!
So now i need to get another ESEE product, i just dont know really what i need/want. Im torn b/t a 6 vs 4.
My main carry options are:
choppers:
the KABAR cutlass & khukri "machetes". & a cold steel khukri the cheep 1 but its not the same level as the kabar's so i let others use it. :D

medium blades:
a KABAR BK2 (~5"blade)... i love the usability of this blade length, but its just to thick & heavy 4 what im usually lookin 4. it is now my main hunting carry option.
a SOG field pup(~4"blade) that does well, but its not as hefty as i would prefer. i use it when i know im gonna be in streams fly fishin, b/c of the SS. its a much better slicer/fine worker than the bk2. but its a bit light 4 what i want.

& of course the izula (<3"blade), that is splendiferous.

i have a few other knives from ontario, western, camillus, buck, sog, & gerber, but the above are what i prefer 2 use from what i have. plus i need (or want, not sure which) another ESEE.
Intended uses 4 the next ESEE are...
1) my hunting blade (keep in mind, the izula is always with me now), that i sometimes need to delimb branches & buildin makeshift blinds, & helping w/ the processing of deer/game (again, the izula can handle alot of that well)
2) Medium sized camping knife for random campcraft chores. I like havin a chopper, my izula, & somthin b/t them... & the bk2 is too much, & while the field pup has not let me down & it keeps a fantastic edge & is easy to touch up, i think id like somthin w/ more heft.
3) somthing that will be a good 2nd blade to a survival combo (since i always have my izula). i dont always take a "chopper" unless im plannin on an overnight trip, but i almost always have the field pup or bk2 when im outdoors, & as menioned previously, neither of those are reaaalllllly exactly what im lookin 4.

ive held both the 4 & the 6, & they both feel pretty good 2 me, different fits, but both were comfortable enuf. So im stuck right now. Weight of the 2 doesnt REALLLLLy matter too much 2 me, they were both light compared to my bk2. I will probably get whichever i dont get for this christmas, next summer... but i still need to make a decision 4 my christmas list!

I tried to cover any questions i thought any1 would ask... so Any input, w/ explanations why 1 over the other, would be fantastic!!! thanks in advance yall!

whatever tickles your fancy, does the jobs that you need to do and fits the budget.

once you have the tools that you need to do whatever jobs need to be done, then it opens up the field to stuff that you just want and can afford.

for example, here in the desert, i don't have a huge need for a machete. it's a lower priority than some other, more practical stuff... but i still have some and would like a nice one sooner or later.

i'll be ordering a pair of the orange Izulas soon, and then will be getting a 5 to keep in the gear bag in the truck.

but a big factor that makes it hard for other people to answer the question for someone else is "what are you doing and where are you doing it?"

HillBillyJ44, my first ESEE was two weeks ago & was the Junglas. This was the model that I would use the most around our property. I am now ordering 2 more this week, and having narrowed it down to the Izula & the ESEE 5. This will cover the majority of things I need to do here, camping, hunting, fishing, etc. I am also revising some of our BOB's knives based on some idea's & talk on this forum. Pick the one you like, & like the rest of the "clan" & myself in this short period of time, I am sure you will own all of them as I know I will . . . :)
Be safe.

4 without a doubt. The universal ESEE blade. I could do pretty much every knife task with my 4.

Waiting for the new Pack kit-hopefully to be part of my Junglas set up. Anyone know if the 2 will be able to be put together ?

Of the two knives you are considering from ESEE I would get the ESEE-4. If you really need a chopper, get the ESEE-5 (nice thick, heavy blade). I have an ESEE-3 for general woods carry and an RC/ESEE-5 for a SHTF survival knife. I just think the 6 would be too big as an everyday knife, and so many people have spoken to the all-around utility and goodness of the 4.

Just my $.02.

The ESEE-4 is a good choice

I'm asking for an HEST for my bday (in mid-december)... we'll see how that goes over xD

thanks 4 all the replies so far!!!
is the 6 blade so long that its gonna mke some tasks difficult vs the 4?
ive just held them, ive not been able to play around w/ em...

i love my 6, but dont have a four yet. just got a junglas last week-havent used it yet.

the 6 is a bit big for everyday carry but i would think the four would be also for some. I think that i will get a 3 before a 4.

no i can do anything with the 6 that i could with the 4, if i need a smaller thats when the izula gets used or a pocket knife.

take it easy

I don't think so. The 4 might be a little more comfortable for some smaller tasks, but the 6 should be fine for just about anything.

The advantage to the 4 is being able to concealed carry it all the time. (which means you're more likely to have it on you all the time, which means you're more likely to have it if SHTF/Survival, which makes it better, IMO)

I want the Junglas, with an OD Izula. Where are in East Tennessee? You might be my neighbor. Moose

Tri-Cities... this year livin in blountville.
I make my way down 2 the smokies & knoxville for some fly fishin & a change of scenery occasionally.

Right Now, im leanin towards the 6. Its not gonna be an EDC... im a nurse in an icu around here, & i cant really carry a 4" or 6" blade around under scrubs! these crazy women i work w/ would flip there sh1t! My izula is the edc of choice, just enuf to do whatever i need.

this next knife will be just 4 when im goin outdoors 2 play... which is often.

If I were a Hillbilly and already had an Izula. I would get the Junglas or 6. I'm sure the Junglas can do anything a 6 can do. I have multiples of all but the 5&6. The Izula and 3 get used most. Junglas is my favorite.
