Which ESEE for my uses...

I would get two. Izula II and the ESEE 4. That covers all bases.

If forced to take just one, I would go with the Izula II

for this..."camping/hiking/hunting/fishing/bushcrafty knife".... The 4 and its def not to big for this..."too thick and long to be a good cleaning/skinning and fishing".

Its to big for a concealed blade and then I would get Izula or a 3, but for what youve mentioned the 4 is perfect!!!!

Well I think I may go with the 3, mainly because I carry a small hatchet for any chopping that needs to be done. Anyone still think I should get the 4 even with the hatchet? Thanks for all of your help btw it really is helping.

Get the 3. Fantastic knife. If you have a hatchet there's no need for a thick knife for batoning/firewood prep. The 3 is an amazing game processing knife, does great at general food prep as well. It is thin, light, and carries very well. That's my 2 cents.

Thanks everybody, I can tell I will like this place! Like I said the blade length of either is fine, it's just the thickness that concerns me. I will have to do more looking into I guess. I am probably over thinking it. :p

If your only concern on the 3 is the thickness, don't worry. It's not going to break doing the things you wanna do.

I can't imagine having one knife, but if I did, it'd be a 3. Hands down.

It was an easy choice for me, the 4. The hard part was picking the ESEE as the next knife I wanted to buy.

Double Ott :)

I have a 3 and it never seems too thin. For the purposes your mentioning it's fine, IMO. It performed camp tasks fine. Batoning is a little rough, but you already addressed that.

I think the 3 is a great, all around knife. But then, I also think that the Izula can do anything that the 4 can do. Too much blade seems to get in my way when I'm doing tasks or processing game. I've been messing around with different grinds and blade thicknesses, and I think that 1/8" to 3/16" is about as good as it gets for my needs.

I pretty much have them all except for the 5 and the Junglas and I would go for the 3; especially if you have an axe or saw already. The 3 is thinner, cuts better and is pointier. Granted, it's not as big/thick as the 4 but if you have the axe you already have that covered.

I was in the same position as you. So i got a 3.....shortly after i got the 4. A week after I got the 5 and izula. No one knife for everything but the 3 is great all around and the 4 is tough as hell. If thickness alone is an issue the izula is slightly thicker than the 3. If you arnt doing any heavy batoning go with the 3, its a really fast blade, great for slicing to carving to fuzz sticks. Anyway, u probably will be back for more delicious ESEE goodness.

My vote is for the 3- I have a 3 and a 6, and combined they'll do anything I need. I EDC the 3 a lot (horizontal OWB on a tek-lok at the middle of my back) and you can't see it with just a t-shirt hanging over it. As was said before, I think the 4 would be too big for EDC (especially around sheeple), and if you leave it at home, it's not going to do you much good when you need it...

I have batoned with my 3 (sorry Jeff) and used it for a ton of bushcraft stuff and never felt like i was pushing to its limits. For my .02, the 3 and a hatchet would make a great combo.

If I had to choose between them, I'd go for the 4. It was my first, and I have not regretted it one bit.
