Which ESEE is best for general purpose camping/hiking?

I will cast my vote for the 4. I was looking for a blade for general hike/camp, and picked the 4 myself. The 3 will be slightly smaller/lighter, but the 4 will give you broader usefulness, such as battoning. (which, of course, you could do with a 3, but you would not have the length for larger wood, or the thickness for strength).

Got two 3's and do not have a 4. Have not felt as if I need one yet. The 3 will clean deer, chamois and pigs just fine and do all the cutting jobs I need it for as well. I have big hands as well and the handle size has not been an issue for me. The 3 gets my vote for what it is worth.

I say the HEST, it's not the longest blade but the cutting edge goes along the whole blade length. It's thicker then the 3, same as the 4 and the handle is longer than the 3 and 4 so can't complain about the handle being small. Plus it's got a wire breaker bottle opener and prybar, Which I hardly use any of those but they look kewl.

I like the kydex better. I've always wondered why the RC4 and RC5 include a kydex sheath where as the RC3 and RC 6 come with the molded plastic. Anyone know the reason for this?
the 3 and 6 were designed first and they tooled up for the molded plastic sheaths, when they did the 4 and 5 and the hest they went with kydex.

+1 more vote for the Hest.If I needed anything bigger,I would jump all the way up to a 6.

I would Go with The 4, Esee Makes all Great knives but for all around Blade for Hiking/camping The 4 has Two Thumbs up From me!

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: for the 4 , 'cos I got 3 of them !
I'm not crazy ( well...sort of !) , but I think it's one of the best knives ever. Even though I own other Esee's and will buy more , the 4 remains my favorite .
