Which fixed blade?

fehrman last chance. If I wanted to knife of around 5.5 inches and made of a super steel, i would go with that. I believe it is around $240, but you have to get a sheath.

If thats to high then I would go with the esee 5.

Thanks for all the input! I have ruled out the Nimravus, but i am seriously looking into the ESEE 6 or ESEE 5. Also I forgot to mention that i have been giving Busse knives a lot of thought, but i was unable to pin down exactly which Busse would work best.

for the money, Bark River, Fallkniven, ESEE are very good knives and no wait!!! TO ME THESE THREE COMPANY'S ARE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN right now:thumbup: a fancy high dollar custom wont get you anything better but braggin rights and a wait. jmo

Swamprat Ratmandu or Fehrman Last Chance for the 5" or so blade would be excellent.

If you were willing to go up to 8" blade length then the Swamprat chopweiler or Busse NMSFNO are excellent as well as one of Fehrmans offerings that I can't remember the name of.

Then there are all the great custom makers on here who can make you a real functional beauty for a comparable price.

My Fehrman Last Chance is one of the absolute best knives I've handled. The quality of the steel doesn't even compare to my Cold Steel SRK or any other knives I own. It is reaching the top of your price range though, but it is definitely a top quality knife.

A vid comparing it to the SRK

+1 (I'll add Beckers in there too). You don't need to spend a lot for a camp chore knife... but if you plan on using it more for wood chopping.. get as long/thick a blade as you can... food prep go thiner and more nimble. All around .. something in the middle.. so know your use before buying.
